I was wondering if anyone knew what the UC policy regarding in progress classes is? I'm taking calculus this semester and find it difficult to manage with all my other obligations. I've applied to UCLA UCD and UCB as a middle Eastern studies major, would I have to inform them that I'm dropping calculus, and will it have any bearing on whether I'll get accepted or not?

yes i think so. if i recall correctly when i was reading the ucd transfer conditions, they said that you would have to notify them immediately if you drop any IP or withdrawl any IP class. i assume this is the same policy at all the other schools.

I dropped one of my courses last month and was unaware about this policy until two days ago when i was accepted to UCD. I e-mailed them about this and they told me that they were going to "evaluate the changes".
here are the conditions for UCD:
1.
Complete a minimum of 34 transferable semester units in-progress or planned for 2004-2005 academic year (Fall, Spring, Summer) with "C" grades or better.

2.
Remain in good academic standing with an overall transferable grade-point average of at least 2.80 with no grade less than "C".

3.
Successfully complete all courses listed on your application as " in-progress" or "planned" and maintain the grade-point average you reported on your application with no grade less than "C" or your admission will be cancelled. If you receive any grade lower than "C", you must report to us in writing. You may not drop or withdraw from any courses "in-progress" or "planned".

4.
You must be in good academic standing for any courses completed at a UC campus.

5.
Admission is granted to transfers who have less than 120 quarter (80 semester) units. You may not exceed this limit unless it was originally stated in your application.

6.
Have your official final college transcript(s), including high school transcript sent to Undergraduate Admissions by July 15 or for enrollees with summer work, September 1.
Failure to submit required transcript(s) by deadline will result in your admission being cancelled.

not sure about the other UC's, but hope this helps..

Thanx...I guess I'll have to stick this one out then. I never should have taken the class to begin with since it's not a major requirement, but it's too late now.

Wait, do you think I should ask them beforehand whether I can drop it or not, or if it'll mess up my chances for admission? This class is really not fitting into my schedule, and I figure I should work more to save up money for University.

I think you should ask them whether it is ok to drop the course, beforehand.

"Before dropping a course, please seek advice from your high school or college counselor. Our admission counselors may help you establish whether you will still meet UC eligibility requirements".
