If I were to drop AP Bio before the first progress report (approx. 4 weeks in) what would the effects be? I know I will end up with a C or lower in the class, as I already have a B-. I already have all of my science classes fulfilled for graduation and do not plan to pursue a career in the sciences. How would having a W/F on my transcript affect my college application? I want to attend a state school (Indiana) and pursue a degree in education or education policy analysis.
What other classes are you taking?
In any case, if you’re allowed to drop, a W will not affect your admissions. A grade lower than C can lead to being rescinded so it’s very risky.
when you say you have them fulfilled, what do you mean? Have you taken Bio, CHem and Physics? If not, make sure you take them.
What type of schools are you shooting for?
What is your state requirements for science?
What do the colleges you may apply to say about 4 years of science?
In order to fulfill my state’s requirements to graduate with an Academic Honors diploma I only need to take biology, chemistry, and ICP (Integrated Chemistry & Physics). I took ICP in middle school, then biology honors, and chemistry honors during my freshman and sophomore years. I also took PLTW: Biomedical Sciences which counts as a science credit as well. I wanted to attend UMichigan but without any AP science classes or 4 years of science it’s definitely a reach. Right now my top college choices are Butler and IUB.
I am currently taking AP English Literature/Comp, AP Calc AB, Spanish 3 Hon, AP US History, and AP Seminar. I was able to drop AP Biology and am glad to hear the W will not affect admissions. I took current problems, events, and issues for a semester and then I will be taking a business class the next semester. Neither would have been my personal choice but I was very limited in which class I could join.
The Current Events and Business class will be relatively easy but are interesting and typical “senior exploration” classes so they won’t “ding you” for it.
The rest of your schedule is extremely challenging and “makes sense” with your goals.
You’re missing a science class but since you have 4 units, you’ll be relatively okay.
UMichigan is definitely a reach but your schedule isn’t bad at all even after the change. It just was on AP too many!
Depending on what vibe you like, look into DePauw or Earlham, as well as Grinnell, Beloit, St Olaf, Gustavus Adolphus, Concordia-Moorhead, Truman State, Albion, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Wooster, Allegheny, Kalamazoo.
