Dual Enrollment students receiving an AA.. What is your status

02/10/2017

As a prospective student receiving your AA degree or 60 credits in addition to your high school diploma, we will be reviewing your college GPA, and the completion of prerequisite courses for your major, along with other pertinent information for transfer admission. Your major is very important in the transfer review process. Please contact the Office of Admissions immediately if you need to add or change your major.

In the next few days, you will receive an important email regarding the creation of your GatorLink account, which will be needed to check your application status as a transfer applicant. If you are admitted to UF as a transfer student, the GatorLink will be your official UF email address.

We appreciate your patience as we continue to evaluate your college-level coursework.

Sincerely,
Office of Admissions
University of Florida

So is this effectively a decline? What happens now?

Hello! I received that exact same email earlier today, I’m very confused by it because I am a dual enrollment student who will be graduating this year from high school with my AA, when applying to UF I was told repeatedly to apply as a freshman not a tranfew student. I meet all of the freshman requirements and even the honors program ones, I have no idea why I would be declined. I’m going to contact them as soon as they open on Monday and I will let you know if I hear anything, please do the same.

I am a student who is also receiving my high school degree with my AA as well, however I applied as a freshmen and got the normal acceptance. Idk why you would get that. I do not think its a rejection but idk.
Here is my message

Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of Florida freshman class for the 2017 Fall semester.

Your official notification and additional materials will be mailed to you in the next few days. In addition, you will receive an important email regarding the creation of your GatorLink account, which will establish your official Gator identity and email address.

On behalf of the Office of Admissions and the University of Florida community, welcome to the Gator Nation!

Sincerely,

omg. I got the same thing,All my friends got in and im getting this message. Now i can’t even log into the website to recheck.
it tells me log out .I heard in other threads that people go back in and find an acceptance. there might be a glitch idk. can you let me know if anything changes for you. best of luck!

Its doing the same thing for me when I log in

I’m not only getting my AA but actually graduating with 90 credits, I got in for Fall 2017

That message is normal for HS students that have earned their AA degree. They have to be admitted to the university (which you now have been) and the college.

It just takes an extra week or two for “AA” freshmen to be processed.

Congrats!!!

@Gator88NE Interesting… You think the message is indicative of admission to the University?

There seems to be a lot of confusion with many in other threads saying the message indicates I was denied admission as a freshman and am now being considered as a transfer student.

@SmartMaaaaan My understanding is that this is how UF handles Freshman with AA degrees.

In normal admissions, you are admitted to the University and the university (via the AO’s) is the ONLY ones that consider your application. For example, as a freshman you could pick business administration as a major, but the College of Business would have no roll in your admissions to UF.

With students that have AA degrees, the college of your major, also has to admitted you (much like a transfer student), so they also have to consider your application.

My sense is that if you meet the colleges prerequisites, you’ll be admitted. While a normal transfer student also has to met the prerequisites, they also have to compete against other transfer students (competitive) for a slot.

Good Luck!

i don’t know but im calling on monday. This just none expectant. many people getting AAdegrees in my school got in .

@Gator88NE Thanks a ton for the help!! I looked at the transfer requirements for my major and found this:

“Economics: Complete ECO 2013, ECO 2023, MAC 2233 (or 2311), and STA 2023. Must typically have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA to be competitive. Must typically have a minimum 3.0 GPA on all attempts of these courses to be competitive.”

I meet that criteria perfectly, and my college GPA is quite a bit higher than 3.0.

I guess I should just sit back and wait a few more weeks.

Unfortunately, UF could not offer freshman admission so now your application will be reviewed as a transfer student. In a few days you will receive a gator link invitation to create a gator link account and then you’ll be checking your status as a transfer student - not coalition. Be sure to have a college transcript sent showing fall grades and UF will get you a decision as quickly as possible (generally a few weeks)

@Melissa96, Do you work for the college? Will these students be eligible for freshman grants if they’re considered as transfer students?

@austinmshauri If you mean freshman merit scholarships, no they will not but if the FASFA was completed on time, financial aid will be doing a full review.

what i was told by an admissions person was that since they could give us a slot as freshman they putting us thru as transfer.

That’s too bad, @Melissa96. It will likely make the college unaffordable for some students. It’s what CC calls a soft rejection. We’ll accept you but won’t give you enough money to attend.

Are ALL dual enrollment students considered transfers at your school?

@Melissa96 Outside of overnighting a fall transcript is there anything else I can do to help result in a positive, expeditious outcome? Thanks a ton for your help!
