@Bored1997 I’ll get that. Thank you.
@Bored1997 Just curious. Does the views on a thread represent view from district users? I’m trying to estimate how many people have applied.
@prohudson16 Nope that is just the number of clicks on the thread not distinct number of users. So, for instance if I click 20 times on the thread it is counted as 20 views.
@Bored1997 Fantastic! Yeah, I’ve been probably the cause for a good chunk of those view hahaha. Thank you! I wonder if the total number of transfer applicants this year will be less than last year’s 953. I’ve been searching all over the web to get an understanding of the pattern of Duke’s transfer acceptance rate and in the past three years there has been a dramatic spike in applicants. Lets hope that upward trend is reversed!
@prohudson16 where do you see the 953 I couldn’t find any statistics on the transfer applications.
@Bored1997 College board posted it on Duke’s profile under transfer students. I’m guessing it was last year’s stats, however, when you search “Duke Transfer acceptance rate” the Princeton review website posts up which provides the numbers from 2012. Here is the link to Duke’s college board: https://bigfuture.collegeboard.org/college-university-search/duke-university
I think the reason for the low transfer rate, is that I guess Duke is underrated. Many people don’t understand its ranked higher or equivalent to some ivy league schools.
@Division1to100 But then again, Duke is renown as a prestigious institution. It’s in the top 10 universities in the nation as well as top 10 for many of the programs on campus. I still think because of the lowering of transfer acceptance rates, people do see Duke worth the effort needed to put in to apply; however, I am sure Duke is relatively underrated to many of the other top 10 universities in the nation
@Bored1997 **i still think because of the low transfer acceptance rate, people do NOT see applying to Duke worth the effort. Sorry haha that what I get for trying to reply when I’m going from club to club and class to class
@Division1to100 ^^ my bad @Bored1997
@Sam998 @Division1to100 @Bored1997 If you don’t mind me asking, how many hours of volunteering do each one of you have?
@prohudson16 the only volunteering I have in my application is a summer working as an SAT tutor for an organization called Let’s Get Ready (Great organization- helps low income students prepare for the SATs and apply to college and for financial aid) but I don’t really have an hour count, I just put it under activities I think
@prohudson16 I volunteered to teach Math at a school for immigrants who did not have the resources to attend school in earlier years of their lives, I worked with 14-15 year-olds teaching them addition and other advanced students things like simple algebra. I think it would be about somewhere around a 100 hours all the other stuff was in high school and that had much more hours attached to it, back then I was a donor accountant.
@prohudson16 300 plus hours, because our team has to do a lot of community service.
Thank you @Sam998 @Bored1997 @Division1to100 Im worried about one of my volunteer activities because I volunteered for 24 hours with having to sign in every time plus another 76 hours where I just went in and spent a few hours each week to volunteer, but it wasn’t recorded. Do you think I should contact the organization and ask them what their protocol for schools, which students are trying to transfer to, calling them and asking about the student’s volunteer hours? Or do you think Duke’s admissions will not call the organization? I did include the organization’s name btw.
@prohudson16 They might call them but, I think they might not have the time to call all the organizations for all people applying, so I would say there is a low chance of them calling, but, on the other hand if they do call and the organization says they don’t have records for you that could be a problem.
@Bored1997 Yeah I does make sense to call and ask the organization the question/inform them.
@Bored1997 @Sam998 @Division1to100 For the financial todo list, do we just email our parents’ W2s and federal tax returns to the admissions office, or send them in the mail? There are not any instructions on what to do, but I figured emailing would be better. Would you agree?
@prohudson16 I am not applying for fin aid so I don’t really know about the process but, I would assume sending it by mail is better than email unless they have a dedicated email address for receiving fin aid materials.
@Bored1997 I believe the financial aid forms are required though. If not, then I am just worrying for no reason.
