@prohudson16 Fin Aid forms are only required if you’re applying for Fin Aid. If you indicated on the commonapp that you’re not applying for Fin Aid then no Fin Aid forms are required. Also for Duke you are considered for merit scholarships automatically from your application, no extra forms are required.
@Bored1997 Gotcha! I didn’t think transfer students have a chance at receiving merit based aid
@prohudson16 Yep just read the paragraph properly again and Duke does not offer merit based aid to transfer students.
@Bored1997 @Sam998 @Division1to100 Great news! I contacted the organization and informed them of the issue and they will take note of it so if Duke admissions calls them they can tell them I volunteered the times I did.
Awesome. Btw just a reminder April 7th is the final due date for all missing applicant materials
Can someone chance me?
Currently a “senior” at a state school in California with about 90 semester units completed.
Applied as an Econ major but want to transfer into Business.
GPA: 3.41, 3.71 in the first two years. Deans list for four semesters.
EC: VP Finance in my sorority, Internship at a local magazine, and worked three jobs
Two LORs. One from a professor and one from an advisor.
Gap of one semester (Fall 2015)
I lost my father last February and my grandfather in October, which I included in my essays. Moved to the RDU area in July to be with my family and decided to apply to schools here even though it may take longer to finish my degree. Born out of the U.S.(Asia).
I’m really nervous. Hoping I get in.
@nt1994 I can’t really chance you as Duke’s transfer acceptance rate is so low it is impossible to know if you’ll get it. The best of the best who apply don’t even get into Duke. It is a lottery. But I can at least see what I can do. What is your SAT/ACT score? What was your high school GPA? What AP classes/tests did you take in high school? Do you have any volunteer hours? If so, what was it, and how many hours? In regards to the internship you had with a local magazine company, were any of your responsibilities business related? If so, did you express that in the common app?
@prohudson16 My SAT score is from almost 6 years ago and was a low 1800. My High School GPA was 3.3 UW. I took almost all the AP courses available at my school (AP Lit, AP Language Arts, AP Gov, AP Econ, AP Euro, AP Stats, AP Bio). I had about 300 volunteer hours in high school (kids summer camp, campus cleanup, blood drives etc). And yes, my responsibilities were business related and I expressed that in the common app. I’m hoping they focus more on my college career since it has been four years since I graduated from high school.
@nt1994 you know that Duke doesn’t have a business program right?
@thecoolboy1234 yes, the business portion was used for another post and I forgot to delete it
@nt1994 Duke does have a Markets and Management studies certificate though.
@nt1994 I understand. I would say usually the longer you’ve been in college the more the “weight” there is for college GPA compared to hs GPA. But Duke is Duke, and because the transfer process is as competitive as it has been, they will look at everything equally. SAT/ACT scores and hs transcript is part of the 6 equally weighted materials for the transfer application
@nt1994 also, what year did you apply for? Sophomore or Junior?
Just checking in, can everyone see a worklist tab on the top right and when you click it with a 7 digit number on their portal?
@prohudson16
I can @Bored1997
Yeah I looked back at some of the older threads and I think they create this ID for everyone, still just wanted to check if everyone could see their’s. @gwill819
does anyone know when the decision starts coming out?
@leahleah Around May 15th
I would love to know how many transfer applicants they select this year.
@neoscarecrue Same here. I know that the number of students who do not return for sophomore year and junior year is the number of how many sophomore and junior transfer applicants are accepted. In past five years, the freshman retention has been 97%. Last year 1133 students applied, 53 were accepted, and 23 enrolled.
