~DUKE 2020 RD APPLICANTS DISCUSSION THREAD~

@hsalem32 That’s how I’ve been feeling about all of my interviews lol. Haven’t had one for Duke yet, though. My Dartmouth interviewer didn’t bring any thing to write notes with, and he was in an obvious rush (but a nice guy regardless). The only person who seemed into the interview so far was my Stanford interviewer.

Hi guys! So I realized duke interviews are optional and they get requests from students before the application deadline (on the website, it says interview requests were due on 12/20 for RD applicants). I did not request an interview because I had no idea there were deadlines for the interviews. I thought the Duke would contact the students for the interviews like other schools do. So I was wondering, is it possible to have an interview with an alumni even if I did not request an interview on 12/20? Should I email them and ask to have an interview? Also, Did anybody here get an email/notification about an interview without requesting it or without submitting application before 12/20?? Thank you!!

My D was invited to an interview - she didn’t request one and didn’t apply by the 12/20 deadline. I think you’ll be invited if they have enough interview volunteers in your area.

Yeah, you don’t have to request it–they contact you. Don’t worry about it if you don’t get one, they’re random

Anyone here get two interviews?

When does RD get released? D had her interview today

@joansass It gets released a couple days before April 1 normally. Unless you get a likely letter

@ref1ections what is a likely letter?

Likely letters are reserved for the tip top of the admitted students pool and are sent any time from a month to a week before decisions come out. I believe Duke sends 1 to every 9 admits. I think recruited athletes typically get them as a way of saying that the school is really glad they committed and of course they are accepted. Otherwise it’s just a way of letting you know that you were a top applicant and you will almost certainly (99%) get accepted. @swimfast11

any one who applied for chemistry major?

When do likely letter get sent out?

2012: Came out as early as 2/3

2015: Came out as late as 3/12

@collegebound1915

@ref1ections (or anyone) how often are likely letters sent out besides for athletic recruit (obviously its a small ass number but like is it only like 10 kids or maybe 50-75?

@baller55 I would direct your question to a very knowledgeable source of Duke admissions, @TopTier

I would also like to add that before I only mentioned athletic recruits and top academic students receiving LL’s, but they are also for URMs. The statistic 1 in 9 was just something I read on CC but I have also heard as low as 2%.

As a Hispanic who applied to Engineering, I don’t see myself as more of a minority lmao

I do, however, understand the rigor necessary to be admitted to Duke, and would not be angry or annoyed if I didn’t receive a likely letter. Lol screw the likely letter as long as i get in

No way I’m getting a likely letter from Duke. I just hope I get in! I am a legacy so maybe that will count for something? I think the interview went well too fingers crossed

Majors: Global Health and Linguistics

has anyone heard yet about their Robertson Scholars application?

@ekv123 I haven’t. They said they would send out notifications in mid February so I’m crossing my fingers until the end of the month, although I don’t realistically think I’ll hear anything back lol

Hey all, applying to Trinity for Philosophy, looking forward to freaking out with you until the 1st of April

Thoughts: Interviewer finally contacted D 1.5 weeks ago and no in-person time could be scheduled. Further, radio silence after interviewer offered a phone interview. Should D contact Duke to try and get a different interviewer? I recall reading that interview evals were due this week if not already due. :frowning:
