My D has been contacted for an interview. Does everyone get an interview? Can someone help us out with what they are looking for? Thanks everyone
Hi @joansass, I had my interview on the day of New Year’s Eve. My interviewer spent the first 20 minutes asking me “Why Duke? Why major? Tell me about your extracurricular activities? Tell me about your high school experience?” Then he spent the next 15 minutes talking about his experience and thoughts about Duke. Lastly, he asked me if I have any questions. My interview lasted about 40 minutes. Relax, it’s conversational.
Thanks, does everyone get an interview?
@joansass If you submit your application by 12/20, then you get the priority to be interviewed. But if you submit it later, then I guess it’s based on availability.
question…if CS is offered at both Trinity and Pratt (I did not know this) what are the pros and cons? I thought it was only offered through Trinity.
Are there any applicants from Michigan? Have you been contacted for an interview? If so, have you done it? Who was it with? How was it? Thanks!
so, i went through my duke app and saw that under the special opportunities of interest i selected baldwin scholars. I made the poor assumption that not only was this regarding James Baldwin, but that it was co-ed. Now realizing both of these (i am a male), I am wondering if I should contact admissions to let them know that it was an accident or something. should i?
@justpick1 I’m from Southeast Michigan, and my interview is this Sunday! I submitted after the priority deadline so I was a little surprised to get it. Is yours coming up soon?
Does anybody have a rough idea of what %age of applicants who didn’t make the priority deadline will still get interviews?
It’s not a standard percentage. It is based on the availability of resources (alumni) in each area to conduct the interviews. I missed the deadline by more than 2 weeks, but was contacted for an interview within 2-3 days of submitting my request and participated in the interview 2 days later.
I realized i made a horrible mistake on my application so for the why duke essay, i briefly mentioned how its PPE major intrigued me, only to realize later that duke doesn’t provide PPE undergraduate major… how do you guys think this will impact the decision T_T
ik it def. shows a lack of research n prob give them the impression of not being so interested in duke after all…
@chihayafuru I think you’re overreacting. Sure, you slightly messed up by calling it a major and not a minor, but doesn’t mentioning PPE in and of itself demonstrate knowledge of the school? That immediately makes your essays better than the thousands of trite ones on basketball, community service, diversity and social climate, etc. And to be honest, admissions officers read your file quickly enough that they might not even notice it. It’s definitely not make or break; don’t stress about it.
@willay thanks for the reply, it really calms me down xd on second thought, considering how fast admissions officer skims through applications, it is likely that they will not notice it… i hope…
@itsmyusername how was your interview? Mine was amazing. Interviewer was relaxed, shared his experience, used the “favorite interviewer questions”. The experience was enjoyable.
@willay my app was in after the deadline
I haven’t gotten any emails or anything about an interview. What do I do?
@justpick1 Mine was great as well! Probably my favorite so far, or tied with MIT. She was very involved at Duke and had a lot of great stories to share. Made me way more nervous for decisions! Nice to hear yours went great too!
@ryang123 I wouldn’t worry about it. Interviews won’t impact the decision, unless it was a fairly poor interview. If they are unable to interview people it won’t get counted against you…not your fault.
@greeny8 how do you get an interview though? Do I set it up or does someone email me?
My DD hasn’t had one for Duke, and I’m not concerned at all. My sister in law works for admissions at a top selective school and she said it doesn’t make a difference. A bunch of the other schools my D applied to contacted her through her email.
Had an interview and it was so pointless and dumb
