Duke Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Big congrats to philo!

@philo CONGRATS! that’s such amazing news!

my FAFSA just changed to received this morning so i’m sure they’re just beginning to update them!

does anyone know when/how decisions will be released? i know they said “by april 1” but that’s incredibly vague! do we receive by email or on our student account thing?

Congrats, Philo! I’m so happy for you!

I have to write another essay. >.<

Also, I just (like 10 seconds ago) got another email inviting me to the Black Student Alliance Invitational. It’s worded to suggest that they plan to invite more black applicants if space allows.

It doesn’t say that I’ve been admitted, but I know for a fact from my readings that everyone who gets that email or something similar for their demographic has been accepted.

That they’re doing this suggests that they’ve probably finished evaluating most applications and determined their *********s/autodenies and are now deciding on those in the middle.

Unless they’re, like, done, which I doubt. >.>

Why is auto/admit censored?

Thanks, guys. I still don’t get it. I don’t expect to actually get the scholarship, but it’s great that I’ll get a chance to actually visit one of the colleges I’m applying to. ^_^

Congratulations, Philovitist!!! That is AMAZING! I so wish I were you. So is that Black Student Alliance Invitational a subtle way of saying that I was admitted? I’m curious just like Philovitist is (even though I know he’s accepted, haha)

And I wish you were me. :S

You get the email, you are accepted. I promise.

In Admissions Confidential, a section is devoted to examining the discomfort Duke produces with its ambigious invitations to events like BSAI. Kids go to the event afraid of being rejected if they don’t, and spend it anxious about their admissions prospects. But they’ve already been admitted. >.>

I don’t know why they do that, but your admission if you get invited is just as certain as if you’ve received a likely letter.

Another Duke RD applicant here! I would LOVE to go to Duke.

Did anyone else apply somewhere early? I was deferred from Stanford…

I was deferred from Yale…

Congrats, Philo! You DO deserve it…definitely more than me, anyway. I’m so happy for you :)

Can you guys believe our fate for the next 4 years is decided in the next 3 weeks. Its so close yet so far

Do you all think I can add stuff to my file (like achievements in the recent months) and letters of recommendation, or is it too late?

Just do it and see.

For everyone on this thread anxiously awaiting the announcement of Duke AB Scholars (though I highly doubt I personally will get it, I’m sure many of you all are more than qualified), apparently notification tends to come out on the first friday of march. Last year it came out on the 2nd; this year, the first friday was march 1st, so they might be waiting til the 8th.

and congrats Philo!!

Hey @philovistist I am going to that BSAI and also was deferred from Yale! It means that you are in basically unless you fail all your classes. lol. Are you attending the weekend?

Also, is Duke one of your first choices if Yale fails? I think it is funny because we will all be sketchily in the Bathroom on that Thurs looking at Ivy Decisions during Dinner either crying or screaming.

The only college I’d choose over Duke is Yale. The rest of the ivy league schools just aren’t (to me) worth living so far from home. In the cold. I really hate the cold…

I probably won’t get to attend the weekend. My parents have always been uneasy about devoting resources for college visits. If it weren’t for the scholarship incentive, I’d probably not see Duke until orientation. ^_^

lol, I hate the cold too, but I love the idea of the North. Where are you from? What scholarship are you competing for and I am sure if you were to contact them they would pay for your flight. I know I recently had to contact a CA school for a flight.

I live in SC and am competing for the BN scholarship. Parents can take me to Finalist Weekend just fine. >.>
