Duke Class of 2017 RD Discussion

Thank you for submitting your Regular Decision application to Duke. We received a record number of applications and are busy processing materials sent by the January 2 deadline.

Yea. That’s scary. Luckily, I got an interview; I think there are not as many kids applying in my area.

I know they say it doesnt but does the area you’re from in the US help in the decision process at all? Just wondering…

Luke, here’s what I believe:

Only if you’re in a super unrepresented state like North Dakota would you be given (a tiny) boost.

If you’re from NC, you’ll also get a generous boost in admissions from Duke.

Other than that, no matter if you’re from the Southwest or the Northwest, if you’re qualified, you’ll get in, if you’re not, you won’t. Simple as that.

If you’re in CA, don’t think you have a disadvantage because even though there are many more qualified people in CA, admissions adjusts for this and accepts more CA applicants in anyway.

Take my opinion with a grain of salt.

@Luke. I’m from Oregon too and haven’t been contacted either. I didn’t apply until after the interview “deadline,” but my bestie applied before and hasn’t been contacted either…

I completed my application last year December … I’m having faith in God to get admitted… I have questions though cause I’m an international student

Week I’m also a RD applicant and also international. Dont even have an idea what schooling abroad is like

Is anyone else’s application fee not marked off? I used a fee waiver, but the site still shows that it’s incomplete…I got the email from Duke saying that my application was completed too :O

^Happy2102 - It might take them a while to process all the apps and supplements and whatnot. So Id say wait a week or so. If it stays same, probably time to pick up the phone and give em a ring.

^^ They will let you know if you’re missing anything!

My fee waiver was marked completed after about one week or so.When did u submit the fee waiver request?@happy2102

@angelnell66 I submitted it around December 21st. The thing is, the fee waiver was in the same envelope as my high school transcripts. The site says that I have everything, including my transcripts. The fee waiver is the only thing that’s marked missing :open_mouth: Guess I’ll call in a week.

Duke’s my numero uno now, since I got rejected EA from Stanford. Good luck to everybody! Only 77 days unti decisions are released!

77 days that feel more like 10 years. im probably getting rejected tho. only applied as a far reach(or w/e u call that) because of the blue devils.

^Sorta the same for me. I’m a decent applicant but not a strong applicant.

What are your stats franeighbor? I’m a average applicant as well but hope to stand out because of the jan sat.

3.85 GPA
1980 SAT, 30 ACT, 780 Spanish, 780 Bio M, 750 Math L2
IB, Hispanic, First-Gen, Great Essays + ECs

Sorta relying on my holistic side to be honest

I think you have a great shot,3.85 + 30 act +URM is a solid combo.

Are we posting stats now? I’m reaching as well

4.0 UW
Class rank 1/392
31 ACT
great EC’s
Perfect essays (I hope)
Blah blah
Live in Pacific Northwest, kind of rural? Idk if that’s a factor lol

I hope I have a chance at Pratt  what are your thoughts?

Also does it help that several relatives, although not parents, that attended? One wrote an extra recommendation for me…

^Hopefully! I come from a bad-ish area. One person tends to get in to Duke every year from my school. Two years ago the Valedictorian got in, last year my gf got in. This year I’m the only applicant in my school so I’m hoping for the best.

I’ll be so glad when this is all over. I never want to think about stats again.
