***Duke Class of 2021 Discussion Thread***

I heard that you will get points deducted in application simply because you are an Asian, while other ethnicities all have bonus points. Hope that’s not true…

I am not sure if points are deducted. I think things are so competitive for Asians because they tend to have the same attributes (high grades/scores, orchestra/piano, science/engineering camps, volunteering at hospitals, tennis) which creates some homogeneity. I may very well be wrong though.

I think you may be right @TheTennisNinja . On the Duke website they mentioned that they are looking for diversity in their new “class of 2021,” so accepting all of the Asians applying who all have the same attributes would not create diversity! However, as long as you show your unique voice in your essay, I believe that you have a shot!

Last year decisions were released on Dec 7th at 7 pm. An email was sent a few days earlier.

I thought it was the 10th @therealdeal23

My friend who applied ed from nc last year told me that.

O

ED notification was Dec. 10 last year.

other asian?

what?

Just got confirmation from the financial aid department that decisions will be released 12/14 at 7pm.

Admissions decisions or financial aid awards?? (Or do they come out @same time don’t really know)

@vincenty99 Admission Decisions

thanks for that info!

Did you just call and ask them?

@vincenty99 Lol no, I emailed them about my finanical aid documents being turned in late and they sent me that info as well

Is it plausible for two students with similar credentials and interests (but not exact obviously) to be accepted ed to Duke in the same year? (also both with legacy)

@therealdeal23 what did they say about your late documents? There was an error with mine too and I just sent in one of the forms yesterday, but it still hasn’t registered on the site. I told them about the error and they told me how to fix it but didn’t say anything about potential repurcussions

@FloridaStudent1 do you have a twin?? I don’t think it would hurt you; I know several pairs of twins accepted into the same schools. If it was two unrelated people, they would also likely still accept those with similar interests in big fields (I suppose a lot of people are interested in medicine, law, etc.)
