for ethnicity in my Duke app, it says ‘Asian-other Asian’ (as I am Malaysian). I am quite sure that Duke considers race as a factor in admissions so do you guys know if Duke just looks at the ‘Asian’ part or also considers the ‘Other Asian’ aspect?
Yup! I was thinking of another school, like I said
@TheTennisNinja Duke has a large percentage of asians and I really don’t think it will hurt you, maybe only help you
I saw on another thread that they apparently released results starting from Dec. 2? Can anyone confirm/disprove this? I am far from mentally prepared for results
@evanescent0129 what thread did you see that from? Can you send the link?
oh boy, in the countless duke posts I’ve read, I think I’d have a hard time digging up that comment. I’m so sorry!
I had my interview on November 17th. You can compare stats to mine, but I’d say there are a lot of people with higher stats that I know haven’t been contacted for an interview yet. I think it’s random and the guy that interviewed me said something about duke pushing to get them done quicker, so I assume that there are a lot of people waiting since they have to rush.
@evanescent0129 you might be thinking of this: last year, Duke sent out an email on Dec. 2. The email detailed the exact date and time of when decisions will be released, which turned out to be Dec. 10 at 7pm.
On the other duke post someone said that they talked to an admissions counselor and she said that they would be sending emails out next week when they will release decisions. Apparently each region has a certain day/time.
Ok thank god, I still have time to panic. @AjWolf03, duke interviews are by convenience. If there is an active alumn willing to do interviews in your area, you will likely be contacted. If not, you probably won’t have an interview. Also consider that the “stats” we posted disregard a hefty chunk of the applications: quantifying essays and other writing materials is difficult in a forum based setting like this, and extracurriculars and teacher recs are also left out. My point is that these “stats” are not an end-all-be-all, it’s a truly rough approximation of where applicants stand in terms of numbers alone.
Is it possible that we get notified tomorrow about the date? Seems like (based off last year) they give at least a week’s notice, so if we don’t get notified until next week, results prob not coming out until around the 15th
gah I’m nervous af. I’m probably gonna get rejected so idk why.
@evanescent0129 Yeah, I’ve already had mine. I was reading through the comments and someone asked if they chose from merit and I was just confirming that it’s not based off of stats. I meant to tag the person but forgot.
@vincenty99 @londondad Also, another thing I’ve heard (not saying it’s the case) is that application numbers can fluctuate in athletic schools with the previous year’s sports performances. Like schools that have a championship season will draw more applicants, so since Duke went off the AP top 25 in basketball for the first time in like 8 years, the lack of people we’re seeing could be influenced by that. Once again, not saying that’s the case. I agree that we are just a small population, but who knows.
@banananana11 I wrote mine about the family type of bond and school spirit. I related it to my school, since its a smaller magnet school, everyone there is passionate and shares that committed bond. I tried to stay on that one kind of thing due to the word limit. I wanted to ramble some but I figure it’d be better to write a good paper that
Best of luck to y’all!
@AjWolf03 ? Duke is 5th and started the season 1st
@vincenty99 Yes, they are this year. Last year, week 13, they dropped off of the AP top 25 for the first time in like 8 years.
Oh thought you meant this year
@vincenty99 ED was due Nov. 1st. Duke’s opening season game was afterward, so the possible influence is from the previous season.
Sorry for the confusion, but you’re right, Duke is killin this year and once our Giles, Tatum, and Bolden get in the game they’ll be even better!
Haha trying not to use “our” quite yet
Yeah originally it said “we’ll be even better” but I changed because I felt it was jumping the gun on a highly selective school, but forgot to take out “our”
lol, I’m sure the admissions are going to be stone cold done with reading about basketball in the “why Duke” prompt.
