Duke Early Decision Roster

haha ;) but i just knowww...

You won't know until the 15th at the lastest. Have confidence! I believe in you, and I believe that everybody in this forum has the stuff to make it into Duke. Good Luck!

haha well i just dont want to be optimistic because if i dont get in.. i dont want to be crushed... im just prepared...

yeah, i agree with you bsbllallstr8, i was the same way last year. i vowed not to get too attached or excited about any single school until decision letters came. it was a lot less painful that way (but also a lot less fun)

where did you apply/where did you get in

bsbllallstr8, what score did you get for the math section of your SAT. When I talked to the head of Mechanical Engineering at Duke over the summer, he said that the engineering applications are looked at differently. The math scores are given more weight, so if your math was good and your english was not so good, you will still be in good shape because they look more at your math. Thats what i remember, so have faith!

haha i got 720 math.. still ****ed at it.

I did get 35 ACT math however. thats like 99.8% or something lol

my college admissions results were messed up because i was stupid

This is a little off subject but thats never stopped me before so...

I'M GOIN' TO DUKE ON SATURDAY. My high school last night upset Reidsville, a team that beat them 55-6 the first time they played. (I've been going to high school football games since I was nine and that was the best game I have ever scene by the way, 16-14.) The state championship game is at Duke (Wallace Wade Stadium) on Saturday at 4:30. Just one more chance to fall in love w/ Duke again before I find out (not sure if that is good or bad though, oh well).

Good luck to your football team. Has anybody on this thread heard of Odyssey of the Mind? Its a creative program that involves many engineering skills. I know that Georiga Tech has a team for Odyssey, but Duke does not. Will participating in an Engineering EC help my chances? My team went to world finals in Iowa one year and got third place out of 36 international teams. I was just wondering if Engineering ECs helped out a lot.

any ECs that you're dedicated to and good at will help you. That said, since you're applying to Pratt, of course engineering ECs will mean a bit more to the admissions committee than, say, poetry clubs or something, because it shows that you have exposure to engineering and therefore may be more likely to stick with it.
Something like OM, however, which is a team competition that focuses more on imagination and teamwork than actual engineering in the mathematical sense (correct me if I'm wrong), wouldn't be enough to overcome low math test scores.

There is a great focus on creativity for OM, but there are lots of engineering skills. When we went to world finals, our team won the Ranatra Fusca award for creativity. This woas from the creation of a linear accelerator that created an electromagnetic field to push a vehicle across the required distance. It was no easy feat. (I discussed this in my essay)

so my part time job at a local engineering firm will help? 550+ hours over the last 11 months =)

OM rocks! I did it for a few years, but never had too much success. My sister went to Iowa State one year for world finals. In fact, one of my ec's on my app. was being an OM official at the competitions here in NC. Personally, I think that actually being on an OM team would look just as good as any other club or sport and possibly a little better. Winning that award at the world finals is a tremendous, tremendous accomplishment as well.

Thanks Dash30, does your sister go to Meyers Park? Or is she younger? How did she do? (I was asking because Meyers Park High School got 1st in our division!)

AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! The suspense is killing me again! I just got accepted to Georgia Tech and the letter was post-marked on the 29th. I hope this doesn't mean we should expect the notification from Duke on the 15th!

Cameron Crazy-- are you from GA?

I was born in North Carolina and I live in PA now

That would be crazy if I lived in Ga

Ooh okay. I saw Georgia Tech and the thought crossed my mind.

:)

ETA: Crazy? How so?
Although, Georgia is anything but jam packed with excitement and thrill.
