Duke ED Class of 2023 Discussion Thread

where’d u hear that?

@madp01 how do u know that? they haven’t released any info about that

@cat111111000

“This is what a girl from class of 2020 mentioned on college confidential.

http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/discussion/comment/19470728/#Comment_19470728“

Keep in mind that she said her hooks were the reason she got into Duke with a low test score. Her hooks were legacy, traveled the world, was a female boxer, multiracial, etc.

The unhooked applicant is going to have a hard time getting into Duke with a 29 ACT, there are just too many great stat applicants without hooks.

earlier in this thread, someone said an AO friend told him @sanjanagupta1

I don’t see the comment about how more applied ED this year than last. I’m not saying it’s not true, but I haven’t found that information out. Yeah, a 29 ACT is way too low – unless you are one helluva an athlete.

MODERATOR’S NOTE:

Take that statement with a huge grain of salt. Aside from being unprofessional, it’s probably a fireable offense for an AO to say that. Just because it’s on the internet, does not mean it’s true.

On a related note, please knock off the joke posts. Applicants are stressing and don’t need the added anxiety of users playing mid games.

@millylopez I dont think that is true cause he said that a while ago and all the applicants from NC and affected areas by the hurricane were in so the numbers of how many apps submitted could not be finalized

I saw on YouTube that this one guy got into Duke for ED last year with a 1360 SAT score. Do any of you guys know how this is possible?

^^^ @Quinchillas if u actually know then why can’t u say where u got it from?

regardless of the actual number of ED applicants, the fact is that all the ED apps are handed in, being processed right now, and we cant do anything about it even if there are 5 million applicants. for the sake of our sanity lets not dwell on what we cant change and just stay positive instead :,)

my counselor got an email

@sanjanagupta1 the email was saying their acceptance rate for ED is gonna be like 18% now that they have more applicants

@srishkm omg really? even including Pratt cause usually it is a higher acceptance rate than trinity. that means that trinity is super low this year like 15% acceptance rate ugh.

@srishkm are you kidding me?!?! It’s almost like the ED advantage doesn’t exist

For many schools, because of hooked applicants, recruited athletes, etc., the ED advantage is not as great as appears as first glance. But putting it in perspective, if the ED rate as published is say 28%, but in reality is more like 15-18% for UN-hooked applicants, this is STILL an acceptance rate that is 33% to 50% higher than RD, which is quite material. So hang in there! If Duke is at the top of your list, you’d be a fool not to have applied ED.

@sanjanagupta1 yeah and I applied to trinity xD

@srishkm rip us. ugh. so annoyed.

Everyone here so far is definitely college material and should relax. If Duke doesn’t work out, then it wasn’t meant to be. I posted elsewhere that a family friend went ED to Cornell two years ago and didn’t make it. Now, he’s at USC and couldn’t be happier. So, it all worked out. It will work out for us too. Most of the kids on this board have very good test scores and grades, and we should all be proud for pushing ourselves.

I can confirm, my counselor got an email saying the same. 800 more applicants, 18 percent acceptance. Yikes

So, that pretty much means that you subtract 220 athletes, 50 quality legacies, 60 other students (e.g. URMs, Questbridge), and you have roughly 4500 remaining kids vying for 530 remaining spots. That would be about 12%.
