Duke Interview?

I just received an email from a local Duke alumni who requested to meet with me for an interview. I was a bit floored because I submitted my supplement after the deadline for scheduling interview, and wasn't expecting to get an interview (I never requested one). Does this mean something (good or bad)? Should I be nervous? Has this happened to anyone else?
Thanks

It means they were able to accommodate you for an interview despite the deadline having already passed. The deadline is just there because after that they can’t guarantee that they’ll be able to find you an interview.

“Does this mean something (good or bad)?”

No

When did you submit your application? I also submitted my application after the priority deadline and was wondering if I would get an interview. Thanks!

With a response that fast, it means they had an alumnus or alumna available in your area–and nothing more.

There’s no kind of screening involved. There just enough isn’t time to screen thousands applications before the interviews have to be completed and the reports turned in.

go rock that interview lexxi

Disagree here. A college that wants can easily do a rough screen based on GPA and SAT. For example, the UCLA alumni scholarships, where the invitation to apply is based on a such a quick screen.

That said, I doubt a school like Duke needs to do this. Large publics because they worry about losing students to schools like Duke. Duke is likely less worried about losing applicants with a yield well over 40%.

Mikemac, if you get the ucla scholarship email you were screened first??

I also got an interview after the deadline! I guess I just got lucky.

I will concede that I don’t have first-hand knowledge of Duke’s system. I know that my alma mater doesn’t do any screening before it sends applicants’ names to the local alumni clubs, and that my local alumni clubs doesn’t do any screening before it assigns applicants to interviewers.

Duke may operate differently, but I don’t know of any colleges that do engage in screening before they match up applicants and alumni for interviews.

Thank you for the clarification Sikorsky!
