Duke RD Applicants for Class of 2016!

Hoping to get into Duke!! haha, good luck to my fellow RDers, are there any other people here hoping to go into law?

@theyeaman, thanks for the info. I read about DukeUpClose from previous likely letter recipients. It is a program where Duke flies you to see the campus at their expense, however I suspect they don’t do this anymore based on info from other posters.

hey guys, I’ve got my interview coming up and I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on how to prep for it? Types of questions I should expect?

Thanks guys and what a GREAT game last night. Dude I am still shaking from that last shot. I was jumping around like a little crazy kid after he hit it.

the kitesurfer.

@kitesurfer, I’ve seen you on the UNC forums- come on man, aren’t you in the running for the morehead haha?.. I don’t think I could ever bring myself to pull for duke, even if it is a great school.

^^^^^

Yes, I WAS in the running for the Morehead-Cain, but I didn’t make it. I am pretty pleased to have been nominated for it, however, and I was admitted to UNC. I have applied also to Davidson College, Duke and Wake Forest.

I haven’t been interviewed for Duke yet, but if it helps, all of my reaches asked “Why Stanford” or “Why Dartmouth”…etc. So be prepared to give a impressive answer to “Why duke”

I had my RD interview back in December.

It was a very relaxed conversation. Just be ready to talk about your interests, ECs, and why you like duke. Im applying trinity Econ so we talked about occupy wall street a bit. It was a chance for her to talk about duke as well, so I think I asked the same amount of questions she did.

@kitesurfer

I just got back from my Duke interview and it wasn’t quite as relaxed as I might have hoped, but it went well. I think it must definitely depend on the interviewer; mine had questions like “what quote would the yearbook staff put next to your senior picture in the yearbook and how does it describe the way your class will remember you?” and other questions regarding what I thought my teacher recommendations said about me, what makes Duke different in my eyes in comparison to other schools, where/how do I see myself in 2016, and weaknesses I would like to work on while at Duke. It was a tad stressful, but the interviewer was nice and seemed genuinely interested in getting to know me as a person. As far as preparing… just know yourself. Know how to brag about yourself without seeming full of it and do your best to demonstrate interest by asking questions. In all reality, I don’t think interviews hold a considerable amount of weight, so just be yourself, do your best, and you’ll be fine :)

That sounds much harder than my why duke, proudest moment, and what I would ask the president. That said, mine seemed to be more of a conversation than interview

My interview was FUN. I loved my interviewer. We saw eye-to-eye on so many things and I felt like I was talking to an older version of myself. It flowed like a conversation. He suggested I bring some videos of myself performing, since I’m in an a capella group and do theatre, and he and his wife just sat there watching my videos. It was really nice. Crossing my fingers…

Just to relieve some anxiety around here since apparently likely letters are out, feel free to laugh at me.

So I forgot the pw to my account. Stupid me. I should have just written it down. And I’m a forgetful person.

Anyway, I just calmly clicked on reset pw and my security questions came up. Well, I forgot the answers to those too. It’s absolutely ridiculous. And now I don’t have access to that account at all.

Go ahead and laugh. I laughed a lot too. All will be well… someday.

^ Oh no! did you email the admissions office? They might be able to help.

I’ll get to it eventually. It’s sort of calming knowing that I can’t touch that account at all. I’d imagine it’d be a strange conversation.

Me: Hello. I forgot my password and cannot reset it.
Them: Why?
Me: Well, I sorta forgot the answers to my security questions.
Them (in their mind): Are you sure you’re Duke material?

^Not strange at all, plenty of people do this all the time, and with stuff that are probably a lot more important than an admissions account; stuff like bank accounts, which is why you can usually also reset bank PINs and passwords with social security numbers, etc.

This thread can’t die! Bump.

Any ideas when decisions come out? My money is on March 29th!

March 29th or 30th, I suspect!

i feel like it’ll be earlier than that?
cuz last year, it came out on the 25th, while ivy day was the 30th last year?
so my bet is on the 24 or 23 (since that’s a friday and i feel like a more likely option)

all just guesses though :)

really? that early?

Does anyone know if Duke has On Campus days specifically for accepted students in April or if you visit as an accepted student is it just the same as a regular visit?
