DS has been awarded Robertson Scholarship at Duke :)
I am absolutely ecstatic ! He did not even apply (unaware?) but has been nominated by Duke.
It is a HUGE honor. What I am reading right now about the opportunities Robertson is offering - I am smiling and crying (from happiness) at the same time.
DS LOVED his experience when he visited last weekend. He ate at the professor's house, was immediately invited to some of the meeting of entrepreneurial society, his meeting with Mr. Robertson was significant, the entire interview process absolutely amazing (6 mini interviews, or something like that ). He visited earlier in the year, stayed at Chapel Hill , and absolutely adored that little college town, which apparently is not that far away?

Can anyone tell me more about the Robertson? Personal experience or something you have heard? How is life at Duke?
DS will most likely pursue physics/economics degree. He is also a filmmaker, has private DJ company and would like to possibly row in college.
He has been admitted to other fabulous schools, still near the top of his list is a well known Ivy and possible full ride to the highest ranked private besides Ivies.

Current Duke sophomore here from North Carolina. While I’m not a Robertson myself, I know a few who are all of whom are very impressive. It’s a huge, huge honor and is among the most prestigious and unique scholarships in the world.

Duke evaluates all applicants for merit-based scholarships automatically, so applying to Duke means that you’re also applying for scholarships this must be how your son was fortunate enough to win!

The scholarship basically equates to dual enrollment at both Duke and Carolina, although I believe one school sort of acts as the “home base” school with more time spent there. If I’m not mistaken, you do have the opportunity to live at both universities at different points in your undergraduate career. I’m a Line Monitor in Krzyzewskiville (where all the Duke students camp out for basketball tickets) and one of my fellow Line Monitors is a Robertson who’s currently living at UNC this semester.

Chapel Hill is a great college town located 8 miles away from Duke and Durham. Durham is nice and recent efforts to revitalize the downtown area have really come through big time but Durham was never built as a “college town”. Duke is more separate from Durham, whereas Chapel Hill is a classic “college town” built around the university. UNC and Chapel Hill are more synonymous.

It’s not uncommon for Duke students to hang out in Chapel Hill. There are a lot of fun things to do on weekends and having Chapel Hill close by only adds to the experience.

If you’d like me to put you in touch with some current Robertson scholars, send me a private message on here and we can exchange e-mails.

Congratulations to your son! You are right to be proud of him.
