Duke University Class of 2025 — Regular Decision

Congrats to all accepted! First and possibly not our last rejection, lol.

My DS was waitlisted at Vandy, WashU and Johns Hopkins. Flat out rejected at USC and UW and was accepted to Duke today. Such a chaotic year.

@bkhstips Wow, congrats! Gabelli at BC is one of twelve, right?

Felt the same about my waitlist to Rice and Johns Hopkins.

To everyone who was not accepted, please know that although it feels like a rejection, that’s not what it is. It’s easy to feel despondent and discouraged about all of the decisions this year when you have poured your heart and soul into applications and may have dreamt about schools for years. My DS had his heart set on USC and was NOT ACCEPTED, and this really was devastating for him, because that was his dream school. He had other rejections and some waitlists, but was ACCEPTED to Duke today. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to pay Duke tuition and he will likely turn down his offer
Here is the reality, many students will “turn down” as many as 10-15 (if not more) schools as they pick the 1 school they will attend. Their decision, in turn, will free up some spots on waiting lists.
Remember, your worth is not defined by a school’s decision.

Rejected. International. Now pray for tomorrow.

Waitlist #6 :). Other ones include Vanderbilt, Wash U, Georgetown, UVA, and WF. If I get 5 more waitlists tomorrow it wouldn’t even surprise me at this point lol. Still don’t understand the disparity in the selectivity of schools waitlisting me (Duke/Vanderbilt vs. WF/UVA for example) but it’s 2021.

Accepted! I received a likely letter on Friday, too!

They’re expecting me to pay 45k a year so of course that’s depressing

S21 Waitlisted

Accepted: UVA (Honors Engineering)
Rejected: Stanford, Hopkins
Waitlist: Vanderbilt (legacy), UNC
Pending: Princeton, Harvard

Son pulled two other applications after he got into UVA. What a brutally harsh year all around.

DS accepted! I assume that Duke has already notified finalists or recipients of their merit scholarships?

Congrats to everyone on their acceptances. My son was accepted after deferred from ED. It’s been a long and crazy ride for everyone this year. Wishing all those who were waitlisted and denied all the luck as you finalize your choices.

I wonder if deferred ED kids got a leg up RD this year since they want a higher yield

I believe they accept 15-18 kids each year.

The sad part is, my EFC is 27k. I think the CSS profile is screwing me over, TBH.

My S21 got in! Wow, this is a shocker! He applied RD (not deferred from ED or anything).

We assumed Duke and the ivies would be a bust (just based on the odds) and he’d already started to mentally commit to either Michigan or GT. He is either going to be electrical engineering or CS. GT and Mich are ranked higher in engineering but Duke is hard to turn down!

There was 107 ED kids accepted. I don’t remember the exact number that were deferred but it was around 850. The kids from ED are re-evaluated separate from the RD applications.
