DVDs to Ipod?

I know this isn't really a college life question, but I know a lot of college kids are pretty tech savvy.

Ok, so I recently upgraded my ipod because I was running out of memory on my old one. Part of this was because I couldn't add a movie since music took up so much space.

So, I'd like to add some movies to my ipod. However, I don't really want to pay itunes $10 a movie for movies I already own.

What do I have to do? I'm pretty sure my computer has DVD burning capability, but I don't have a program to use it.

What converter program should I use to make them readable/viewable on my ipod?

How much money will I have to spend? I tried a free program, but it didn't work so well, it crapped out halfway through and iTunes wouldn't load it.

Thanks!

Uhhh, thanks? Except I was looking for testimonials from people on CC, since I tried a couple programs already that didn’t really work and my friends just re-buy from itunes, so they didn’t really know.

I’m really sorry that I can’t be of any assistance, but if you don’t mind could you tell me what program you used to transfer music from your old iPod to your new one? I’m thinking of getting a new iPod myself soon (one ear works when you plug in any type of ear/head phones and I got an 8GB iPod which isn’t enough space I realized). I would really appreciate your feedback.

Oh, you can just do it through iTunes. (In fact, I think you have to use itunes).

When you plug your new ipod into your computer, you will have to register it and one of the questions is something like “Is this a new ipod or is this replacing another one”.

I clicked replacing another one and after registration, it automatically began to sync my music, apps, games, etc…

About 14 gigs of music and everything else took less than an hour to transfer, so it wasn’t that bad.

Hope that helped.

Oh cool. So did you have to have both iPods in at the same time? I remember a while back that iTunes didn’t allow iPods to transfer content.

I’m not sure. I still have the other one, but I don’t think it was needed in order to transfer the files. I didn’t know itunes didn’t allow that before, kinda strange.

I use “DVD Decrypter” and “Videora Ipod Converter”. They’re both free, and you can find directions online. It does take a while though.

Download the movies as torrents if you’re into that. Or rip your dvds, but I’m not sure why you’d want a movie on your iPod that you have on DVD. Then use Handbrake to convert to mp4. You don’t have to spend anything.
