For the last two years I've used itunes on my home computer, but now I want to transfer all the music in my library (which is also on my Ipod) to my laptop. Only, everytime i try plugging my ipod into my laptop the itunes library is empty and i cant seem to transfer anything from the ipod to the library. help me please.

What I did when I bought my laptop was transfer my music files in chunks using a flash drive memory stick. Although this does take time, it was the quickest way that I could think of because as far as I know there is no way to transfer from ipod to harddrive. To transfer about 700 music files it took me about 2 hours, so like i said it is tedious. There may be other ways to do this for more computer savy people, but thats just my method.

You should be able to share music between your iTunes libraries if you put the files in your computer's shared folder. What operating system are you using?

you can't plug in the ipod and move files to the new hard drive without a third party utility or accessing hidden folders.

You might as well burn a DVD or two and import that way, or drop to a shared space on a network and pick them up from there.

Yeah, for piracy reasons itunes doesn't allow you to transfer songs from your ipod to itunes...I don't know why...it seems pretty retarded to me...but you can't. I went through the SAME ordeal last summer.

Basically what you have to do is hack into your ipod and get the songs. There are a ton of programs out there for a price, but I just googled something like "transfer ipod songs to itunes" and found some message board threads with detailed instructions on how to do it. Just search the internet because there are ways out there to do it quickly and easily.

Ugh it makes me so mad just talking about it...I see no logic in why apple does these things...

I'm pretty sure Apple does those sorts of things to appease the music industry.

just google it... you can download a third party program to do it for you. The most recent one I used was ISyncTunes... its a pay program I think but with a free trial that gets the job done perfectly well. I've used a couple others that worked fine as well.

Eh well...

I got a 30 gig video with like only 4 gigs used for music

What I did was save the whole music folder to the ipod as if it were a big flash drive O_o

Go to My Computer and drag the file onto the thingy. Mine says E: Removable Disk. That should do you up. Just transfer them like that!

i used copypod. Great program :). Backups playlists, songs, everything :)

1)If ur ipod is less than half full, goto the 3rd step
2)If ur ipod is more than half full, plug it in, goto edit-preferences-ipod then check automatically update selected playlists only, then only select a small playlist
3)goto edit-preferences-ipod-enable disk use
4)goto my computer, click on ur ipod hard drive (usually called your name's ipod) now copy c:/documents and settings/"yourname"/my documents/my music
to the ipod
5)install itunes on new pc (dont let it search for music)
5)connect ipod to new pc and replace your laptop's old "my music" folder with the new one
All songs, playlists, and play counts will now be on ur new itunes installation

Sorry this is long, but its the only way to transfer all ur settings and play counts (which i like to use) without paying for a program

I used a program called ipod rip that I downloaded after my laptop commited suicide and everythign on it was deleted to get my music off of my ipod onto my new computer

apple does this so that u dont give ur new favorite song to ur friend simply by hooking it up to their pc- although its possible, they dont make it easy- plus there is no way to differentiate between "its just my new pc" and "its my friends pc" so they have to make it hard

heres another question: what is the best place to get movies for your video ipod?

If you have a mac, then download senuti.

to the OP: sorry to hijack your thread but i see no reason to create an iPod-iTune thread :) anyway heres my question:

everytime i connect my iPod to my laptop/iTune to charge the battery, there's a new On-to-go list added to my iPod automatically. Now i have like 10 on-to-go lists and its really annoying... does anyone know how to delete the lists and also stop it being automatically added to my iPod? thanks.

buy a flash drive

iDump is a an easy to use free program for transferring your iPod songs to your comp.

Plug in your iPod to your laptop...

Open the My Computer thing off of the Start Menu...

Find your iPod's removeable storage device icon and double click...

Click on Tools and go to Folder Options...

Go to View and find the Hidden Files and Folders thingy, click Show Hidden Files and Folders and apply the new option...

A new folder saying iPod Controls will show up so double click that and you'll see a folder labeled Music...

Now just highlight all of those and send them to My Documents...

And Highlight them again and drag them into your My Music folder...

You know how to get them in your iTunes from there I hope...

Sorry if I layed the steps out too simple. I just don't know how much you do with computers. Good luck with that.
