I got the email sent twice, is this a good sign?

I just called the financial aid office. “Carl” answered and said the email was sent to everyone who filed a FAFSA, and it’s not an indicator of being accepted or denied because the Financial Aid Office is independent of the Admissions Office.

I also got two of the emails, but I can’t believe that means I got in.

I didn’t research the 2010 threads on this, but from those of you who did, it sounds like:

-If you got the email, you’re accepted
-If you didn’t get the email, you may or may not be accepted

Am I right?

^Based on 2010, yes. I could not find a single example of a student getting the email, and then getting denied. I found many examples of students not getting the email, and then getting accepted.

I have a a CalNet ID since i was accepted last year, and It shows me I got a 17k award. I don’t want to be too happy about it, but most likely, i think, those who got it have been accepted.

@Vedanta

Is that 17k of gifts, or 17k including loans? How much gift aid did other UCs offer you?

Just gifts. Up to 32k with loans. UCI - 14k and UCLA 15k. UCD said I didn’t turn in FAFSA papers

Wow, nice. I got 14k from SD and 15K from UCI. Sure would be nice to get 17k or 18k from Berkeley.

Yeah, so you guys think it’s okay for me to feel in already?:S
Yeah, 17k is really good:D!

I’m still skeptical of the email. It does seems a bit too coincidental for it to be sent the day before, but I won’t believe it until I log in tomorrow and see the official decision.

i didnt get one. whatever. im gonna sir to la tomo.

did you apply for FAFSA?

Does anyone (nick_scheu???) have a link(s) to the 2010 threads that discuss this issue? I received the email but I really don’t want to get my hopes up and I didn’t envision my chances as being very good. I would like details as to the past circumstances people faced.

I called the financial aid office and I asked them “does Berkeley create financial aid offers for people regardless of whether they have been admitted?” but the representative dodged the question and told me that the email was sent in error and that it is not indicative of whether or not one has been accepted. I proceeded to ask her if “the error was that the email was sent early or that the email was sent at all” and she said that the email was accidentally sent to all transfer applicants. So it is not indicative of admission status.

The discussion felt like she was trying to diplomatically avoid admitting that it meant I was admitted but her statements were clearly stating that the email meant nothing.

I’m still skeptical of the significance of the email and I would really like to see the old forums.

Thanks, and good luck to everyone!

I posted one in the other thread a few pages back. Bottom line, I’ve not found a single student who received the email and was then denied.

hungry - it was certainly not sent to all transfer applicants, many of them on this site have not received the email. that is good news!

Hungry’s experience sounds a lot like what I thought FinAid’s strategy would be:

BTW… If Berkeley Financial Aid is reading this and took my advice, send me a PM. I’m experienced in crisis communications and currently accepting new consulting contracts.

“…she said that the email was accidentally sent to all transfer applicants…”

I’m skeptical also…but how come some people that filled fafsa did not receive the email?

anyway, we ll know pretty soon =]

Well now I’m worried. I did not get the email, but I definitely submitted a FAFSA. And I was pretty confident about getting in, so I don’t know what to think.
