Have any of you guys done the EA/AP program? I am considering doing the program next year (summer before senior year) and was wondering if it gives you an advantage as to getting into CMU. It says something about early action offered to those who take the program before senior year. Is this true?

You could apply for early action in your senior year, and you should hear from the college in mid October. Although there is no guarantee that you will get into CMU as long as you participate, but spending six weeks in the summer at the school should convey to the admissions committee your interest in the school. I am in the AP/EA program right now, but I got in in my junior year. However, the program is not that selective, and you could also check out some of the harder-to-get-in summer programs in the MIT admissions website.

spartan is partially right.
yes. APEA allows you to apply for early action and get a decision in october.
as for selection rates, pre-college costs $7k and has a pretty high rate of admission. http://www.cmu.edu/enrollment/pre-college/
on the other hand, there is also the summer program for diversity. ive heard their admission rate is quite low (20%?). i need to ask the director sometime later. if you get into AP/EA through diversity, it doesnt cost you a thing and you still get to take two courses and get the privilege of early action.

i am in cmu right now doing diversity AP/EA. frankly, i am having the most fun in my life. i strongly recommend the diversity option.

i did it this year as a rising junior. (:
diversity and AP/EA are the same, really, but diversity is free of cost and much more selective (there's a slightly different application process, also).

it says on their website that APEA admissions is less selective than for CMU. i don't know of the exact rates, but taking APEA and doing well in your classes is definitely looked upon positively (says the pre-college faq).

(...on a completely irrelevant note, spartan and tong! i know both of you from apea.(: (: (: (: (: (: (: (:)

edit: ...UH, i think i've basically repeated what the above two posters said.

I'd recommend the program, simply because you get to apply EA and see what CMU classes are really like. Some aspects surpassed my expectations, while some didn't. It really helps to be there for an entire 6 weeks to sort of experience what college is like and maybe even discover what you would really want from a college experience. I know I discovered that I didn't like the city of Pittsburgh a lot xD Nevertheless, CMU is a great university, so I decided to overlook that =]

Hahaha ^^^ I went to APEA also :)
E tower of power!

Does anyone know how much applying Early Action affects what admissions is looking for?

I, too, went to APEA this summer.

:) E tower 3rd floor represent.
What happens on E3 stays on E3.
and whos poli?...
^^^^^
I asked my interviewer about early action admission rates. He said it would be "significantly higher than regular decision" though he cannot recall the exact percentage.

E tower 6th floor! :)
I knew ppl on E3! Hahaha.

Did your interviewer say that they would lower their standards for APEA [because they got good grades in the courses] or was it just that the quality of the students was higher?
