If you applied for the Dingledine Scholarship I believe that you would be notified shortly about whether or not you have made it to the interview round.

I THINK JMU notifies about Madison Achievement Scholarships (even for EA admits) at the same time as RD, but I am not sure. Not sure about STEM Scholarships or other specific departmental scholarships for specific majors.

I see you are the college rep, maybe you can verify what it actually the case.

My D also got the email with the offer of admission today. We are very excited as this is one of her top choices and her first acceptance. Now she just needs to do well in her audition in the theatre department there next weekend!! Congratulations to all!

RE Post #44 – If I knew I would have verified what was “actually the case.” I am not a JMU general college admissions representative. I am faculty/ program coordinator in an audition/ portfolio reviewed major. Academic admissions is separate from program admissions (in restricted majors)… meaning a student could be admitted academically to JMU, but not admitted to their preferred restricted major… ie. music, theatre, musical theatre, dance, etc…

In my program we make most scholarship offers at the time of program admissions. BUT, for us, EA admits hear from us about program admissions and scholarships at the end of February or beginning of March. RD admits hear from us about program admissions and scholarships at the end of March or beginning of April. We do not admit students to our program until we have seen all auditions, and we cannot admit students to our program until we know that they have been admitted academically to JMU.

In terms of overall JMU academic scholarships, I am trying to remember and communicate what has been communicated to me in previous years… I am only directly connected to the scholarships we offer through the program in which I teach.

For a definitive answer about scholarship notification from the academic admissions area at JMU I would contact academic admissions directly. If you are curious about scholarships related to the honors program or a specific major I would contact those areas directly.

Some universities have a blended admissions process (meaning you are admitted to the university and major connected)… others have a bifurcated admissions process (meaning you are admitted to the university and the major separately). JMU is a bit of a hybrid… Any student admitted academically to JMU may declare any of the non-restricted majors. A student admitted academically to JMU who would like to be admitted to a restricted major needs to also follow the steps to be admitted to the intended major. Some restricted majors allow students admitted to the university to declare the intended major, but the student needs to meet specific freshman/ sophomore pre-reqs and then apply to the major. Other restricted majors (music, theatre, dance, musical theatre, etc…) allow HS seniors and transfer students to audition directly into the major. For students admitted academically to JMU they may also be admitted to the restricted major, but if not, they may attend JMU “undecided” or in another unrestricted major.

This is a lot of blah, blah, blah… but hope it may be helpful :/?

Kellylj1 – see you next weekend! :)

Accepted! 3.8/1780/26 7 aps/honors! Really excited even though im not attending!

Bluehen -so sorry to hear about the deferral, I am sure your daughter is bummed. But I am also sure she has a good chance during RD.

DD was accepted - missed the call Monday but got the email yesterday. She really thought she was going to be deferred based on last year posts, etc. So now her decision is really hard.

CofC or JMU? Major - hospitality/tourism management; she wants to minor in dance and also loves studio art.

momofa12, I have toured JMU and CofC with my kids and loved them both! Obviously very different, especially in terms of campus and location. Given your daughter’s interest in hospitality/tourism management, I would give a nod to CofC. The opportunities for internships/jobs in the Charleston area in that field are outstanding.

momofa12 - the hospitality/tourism major would seem to point towards CofC - but I would investigate JMU’s program further. I know they just started a new school that combines hospitality and tourism with sports mgmt.

You have probably already seen this - but just in case:

<a href=“Hart School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management - JMU”>Hart School of Hospitality, Sport and Recreation Management - JMU;

I would suggest your D speak with him before deciding.
