EA Decisions

A fat acceptance letter arrived for DD on the west coast today. :)

I am sorry that your daughter got deferred. It must be very frustrating , especially if it is her top school.

I don't think that that means "no". They have had record applicants for the last few yrs, each yr being more than the last.

They most likely have a certain number that they have to leave open for regular decision apps too. They expect that some of the accepted students will choose other schools , which would be a good thing for your daughter.
Most schools do not have to have a decision until May 1st, so that should give you a little time to decide on the schools she already had been accepted into.

We are waiting to hear from three of the 6 schools that my 2nd daughter has applied to and she is so stressed that she has convinced herself that she won't get in anywhere .
After the weekend is over, try to call the admissions office and maybe you can get an idea about the estimate of percentage of defeered students get accepted in time for regular decision.
Good luck to you.

lje62,

Thanks to you and others that have sent me encouraging words through private messages.

For my daughter, like most of the other kids, she has tried so hard that she is literally "burnt out". Like a marathon runner that thought she had just crossed the finish line after a grueling 26 mile race, my daughter is being asked to run another 10 miles (i.e., continued lobbying, activities, etc.), and even then she won't know if she will get in.

I am going to call the admissions office to get some kind of statistics on deferred admission acceptance. I don't want her wasting her time.

It would have helped if the college could give some kind of hope to these deferred students instead of leaving them in limbo.

Thanks again!

accepted;

Accepted to Writing for Screen and Television plus Honors Program

We called about scholarships (so excited I got one!) and the guy on the phone said very few Honors acceptances went out for Early Action as most applicants get deferred until April. I'm guessing, since only fifty get in, 5-10 acceptances went out. I was SO surprised, I didn't expect to get into the program at all!

Unfortunately I can't make any decisions until I hear from my first choice (USC School of Cinematic Arts) in APRIL. God.

My stats:
SAT- 1310/2020
3.8 GPA/ 8th in Class
Extracurriculars, Director in School Variety Show was a big one
Varsity Field Hockey and Varsity Softball
And I'm a White female (with just enough Native American to put down) from Massachusetts

rejected, not even deferred

i am pretty disappointed i didn't get in, my gpa definitley threw me off =/

Accepted on Saturday to Communication Studies. :D I doubt I'll end up being able to go because I need a lot of aid but there's always a chance.

GPA 3.75/4.0
Lots of involvement with drama as well as being a student reporter for the local paper.

In for spring freshman transfer into marketing comm. Only attending if i get housing.

I got deferred and I'm so incredibly bummed out about it. I feel so lost, I haven't even applied anywhere else yet, I have no idea what to do. Emerson has been my dream school for the past year. Anyone have any suggestions of where I should apply, looking for a good film school preferably on the east coast.

3.5 unweighted GPA - 5 AP classes & 6 honours courses
27 on the ACT
Editor-in-Chief of the school paper plus four years of writing
Camera operator for video announcements

I thought I had about an even chance of getting in, but I'm still praying to god I wake up in ten minutes and realize it was all a dream.

Lobo, go to the library and read chapter 13 of Don Dunbar's "What You Don't Know Can Keep You Out of College" that tells how to handle a deferral. Realize that you didn't get a rejection. Do all you can to maximize your chances.

Has anyone planning to major in Acting/Musical Theatre heard from them? Or are they sending out decisions after the Acting/Musical Theatre auditions? I was hoping they would send out whether or not I was accepted into Emerson before they decided if I was admitted into their Theatre program, but I haven't received any letter yet.

I'm surprised you were rejected and not deferred newyorkgirl514.

I was deferred, but I thought I'd be rejected, so I'm keeping the hope. My intended major is journalism, so I'm going to do extra things for them to notice me for the spring.

Anyone planning to study Writing for Film and Televison? And did anyone hear from the honors program?

vossron- thanks for the advice, I went and read that chapter and it really did give me hope. Emerson is still my top choice and I plan to do whatever it takes to get in.

I got my letter today and I got deferred. I'm not that upset, though, because since I plan on majoring in Acting, I think they need to see my audition before they send any letter of admittance.
Stats (if anyone wants to know)...
SAT- 1960, 3.7 GPA, #38 in class out of 461, president of theatre, been involved in my high school's theatre for 4 years, and I was a co-host for a short-lived TV show.

Hi! I'm currently a Senior at Emerson in Marketing. Emerson was my top school and I too got deferred in December. Even though it's a pain, it doesn't mean your daughter won't get in! There are a lot of students applying with intense portfolios, or very high grades... so the competition is tough! Just know that there is still is a very good chance of getting in!

When you were deferred and sent your extra stuff in, did you find out before April 1st?
