My stats have changed a bit, as i dropped some ec’s like track which i ended up not doing and what i believed my gpa was on previous post but i have now confirmed with my guidance counselor (and test scores were predictions on last).
*Science & Tech classes are more rigorous than the honors classes at my school (i.e Biology S/T harder than Honors Bio)
GPA: 3.6-3.75
Rank: not exactly sure but there are 600 students in my grade and the average gpa is 3.1-3.2 so i believe i am in in the top 20% at least
ACT: 29 (will retake in september before applying) R:31, M:26, E:30, S: 27
SAT: haven’t taken yet but practice test scores in 1350-1400 range
will also be taking SAT World History, Literature, and Biology [E]/M in June
Course Load: In STEM Magnet Program at my school you have to test into which requires that all academic classes are honors… (I also took High school level Spanish 1 and 2 in middle school which counts for credit with A’s in both and Algebra with a B but had to retake b/c I did not pass the requirements for Geometry Science & Tech but still get the credit from middle school)
Freshman (GPA: 3.6): Technology S/T, Biology S/Tech, Advanced Alg 1, P.E/Health, Art 1, English 9 Honors, U.S. History Honors
Sophomore(GPA: 3.4): Engineering S/T, Chemistry S/T, English 10 Honors, AP Gov (score: 2, won’t report), Geometry S/T, TV Productions 1, Forensics S/T
Junior (GPA: 3.75-3.85): Physics S/T, AP Lang, AP Chem, Japanese 1, AP World History, TV Productions 2, Alg 2/Trig S/T
Senior Courseload: Math either Pre-Calc or AP Stat depending on if I take Pre-Calc over summer, AP Biology, AP Psychology, AP Human Geography, AP Literature, Japanese 2, Research Practicum (extremely intense year long science research course for my STEM Program)
8 (mabyeee 9) AP’s in total and all “honors” (half honors, half science & tech) and four years of two diff foreign languages
Summer Courseload/ Dual enrollment: Trig/Geometry (b/c geometry is the only C on my transcript and want to make up for it) and Foreign Policy
EC’s:
-Work at Smoothie Shop at least 20 hours per week during all of junior year
-Founder and President of my school’s social justice club (planning art show in june for teens to display their art centered on social justice and organized a drive for a battered women’s and children center)
-National Honor Society (hopefully will get leadership position; elections are in May)
-Japanese National Honor Society (same ^^)
-Mentored incoming Science & Tech freshmen two years in a row
-Shadowed people at the Global Women’s Leadership Initiative at the Wilson Center in DC (hopefully can get rec letter)
-Volunteer at 3 non-profits involved in social justice issues (part of my passion/future college major besides neuroscience) with Us Helping Us (targets Black men with aids), 100 Fathers (helps Black men become better fathers), and also another that helps homeless minority LGBT youth find homes (over 200-250 hours community service)
-ACLU Summer Institute for Advocacy at Georgetown University over the summer (just got accepted yesterday :]!)
State: MD
Race/Ethnicity: Black/Puerto Rican
Hooks: URM, only one parent with college degree (idk if that helps), may get rec letter from a georgetown graduate student who is on the leadership board for Fannie Mae
Income: around $150,000
School type: Public Magnet High School (only 100-150 kids per grade are in the STEM program, the rest are local kids)
Sorry this is so long but what are your opinions on applying early action for Georgetown? It’s my number one school and I’ll have shown great interest with two college visits and the ACLU program hosted there. Should I just apply RD and wait for them to see my senior grades?
