I was contacted two days ago by my area's alumni association. An alumnus scheduled an interview for this Monday and said that he would email me with the time and place that night. He hasn't confirmed anything with me yet, and because he said that he was going out of town next Tuesday, I'm getting worried.

Should I just wait for his email? Should I contact the alumni association if Monday doesn't come through? I don't want to be intrusive and look up his phone number to call. Thanks for your suggestions.

I’d wait. If the interview deadline passes, then call the alumni association (I’m assuming you mean the local alumni association. Do they have a website? Do you know the right person to talk to?). Interview reports are due December 1, so there is time if the first deadline passes. I’d assume the ASC director would be very accommodating if your interviewer stands you up.

AdmissionsAddict, my D applied to Yale EA and got her Eli account, but still no alumni contact for interview yet. As you said interview reports are due Dec. 1, we are worrying about it now. Do you think we need to contact Yale or just wait? Thanks.

Jack - just wait. Not everyone gets an interview, so you might not.

Bella - I’d say wait it out as well. If the guy said he’d be in contact with you, he probably will. Maybe you could just casually email him letting him know you’re still available for Monday, or something. As you said, you don’t want to sound too intrusive. Good luck :)

Jack and Wasian–Have you read the two stickied threads I started about interviews? They are among the first few threads on the Yale forum. Not everyone gets an interview and not getting an interview means nothing.

Hi, AdmissionsAddict, yes, we read your threads. thanks, they helps a lot. one concern we still have is we live in a big city, where there is an active Yale alumni club. When we attended an Yale info session in Oct, some members of the clude told us they will be responsible for alumni interview. Also we don’t think there are too many EA applicants in our area. they should have resource to interview everyone here. we would not worry too much if we have lived in a rural area.

jack:
“we live in a big city, where there is an active Yale alumni club”
“we don’t think there are too many EA applicants in our area”

It is hard for both of those statements to be right. If you live in a big city with a lot of Yale alumni, trust me, there are plenty of EA applicants from your area.

Also, an active alumni club doesn’t necessarily mean lots of alumni interviewers. A very small number of alumni are alumni interviewers because of the time commitment, because they feel they are out of touch with Yale toeday and wouldn’t be able to answer questions, etc. In some ASC regions, alumni clubs operate separately from the ASC.

Bottom line: Not having an interview is no reason to worry. It will not be held against you. The admissions committee understands that many ASCs are overwhelmed and can’t interview everyone. There is so much worry that goes into the admissions process that this is one worry you should cross off your list.
