EA Notifications

So when will UChicago release the EA results?

Called BC Admissions Tuesday. Also told only “some” deferrals had been sent by email accidently. More would be sent out Friday with everything else.

Any changes in the agora portal? Cause no changes in my D

Sent from my SGH-T989 using CC

No changes to my ds’s either.

I think it’s time to quit and just wait until you get the letter… I give up trying to figure all of this out

i still dont understand if im international will i get letter or email?

hey guys so im a little confused, do we get the decision tomorrow or is it sent out tomorrow so we’ll prob get it monday? also does it come by mail or email? thanks!

Wow, now I’m utterly confused! Contradictory statements flying all over !

@ChillyPenguin Most other schools send international decisions via email. But I don’t know…BC could be different.

What is going on

I have no idea anymore.

I am extremely disappointed with how this has been handled by the admissions office.

There’s just one thing I can’t wrap my head around, and it’s the fact that there is no rhyme or reason as to WHO received an e-mail on Monday. There has to be some common factor that we are missing here…

Being someone who did not receive an email, I now suspect I will get one tomorrow morning. I have similar stats to those who posted earlier and were deferred(2130 SAT, 3.93 UW, 4.45 W, 05/398 Class Rank, a lot of leadership and EC’S, 100+ volunteer hours.) I am first generation and I did not apply for financial aid.

Basically, at this point I am just disappointed in the way this has all been conducted, whether or not it was a mistake. I believe in some ways it was also insensitive. If you ended up sending some or most of the deferrals Monday, why not send all? And if you’re not going to send all, why are those working in the admissions office reporting otherwise? It’s going to end up being a sense of very false hope for a lot of people. I wish everyone luck.

I completely agree with you gibbons. Makes no sense at all and many people will be needlessly disappointed. However, I think you have a very good chance of receiving an acceptance. Good luck!

@gibbons… I just had to tell you that my son applied two years ago to BC with your same stats(decided on another college)… his class rank was not as good as yours… and hardly had any EC and no leaderships and got in. So, don’t get too discourage. I came back on this board this week to check for a friend who’s son applied EA and I wanted to see when the letters or tabs where going to change. Hang in there another couple of days… wish you luck.

@gibbons: you really wrapped it up perfectly! I completely agree that it is hard to understand how only “some” deferrals have been sent. There has to be a commonality with the emails, as I’m fairly confident the system didn’t spit out random emails. I also agree that people have been building false hope if it is true that they can still receive a deferral. This was very poorly communicated by the BC office

Dear Damond3 : I preface this response by underscoring that I have no dog in this fight - but exactly what was poorly communicated by the Boston College Admissions Office? Some number of several thousand students received notification earlier than they should have regarding their deferral to the regular decision round. That is the fact, the whole fact, and the entirety of what has been disclosed.

That fact does not state whether it was all deferrals or some deferrals. It does not disclose how the list was released or why it was released.

If you did not receive one of those letters, the ultimate fate of your application is not changed one way or another. If your application was as complete as possible, offering your best possible test scores, polished essays, and reflected your four year scholastic career as a well-rounded individual, you have done what you can at this point.

Dear gibbons : Again, no dog in this fight, but what was insensitive? In fact, one could argue that those deferred have received a “favor” in that they are largely being told to get their regular decision responses in order immediately. Meanwhile, those who have not received an e-mail are in the exact position in which they were supposed to be at this point.

The point is simple : All decisions on the EA round have been made at this point and the postal mailings begin tonight into tomorrow morning. Everything is locked down except for you individually “knowing”. Here is a recommendation for everyone still wondering : Volunteer to work in a local pantry or soup kitchen on Friday/Saturday/Sunday this weekend in support of Sandy Relief. It will help you pass some time, it will help your community, and will allow you to add something to your profile for your next admissions letter.

Dear ChiliPenguin : In response to the following post -

You will receive a physical package via international postal mail/courier with the Boston College decision. No acceptances or rejections (and historically, deferrals) are communicated via e-mail.

@scottj: I agree with the what you are saying but unfortunately I fear it wasn’t that clear cut for applicants. For example, if applicant A does not receive this “deferral email” then applicant A is entitled to assume he or she is not deferred. That being said, it’s clear now that nobody knows how many deferral emails were actually sent out. My point is that Applicant A who has been following this process ever so closely, had reason to believe he or she would not be not deferred. When the mail arrives at that particular date, Applicant A could actually receive a defferal letter, which I believe epitomizes that false hope! Applicant A clearly had his or her heart poured into the process and used every sign from BC office to make an educated prediction. I just see the deferral emails as a mistake that could have been handled better… That is all! Not a big deal and like you said it doesn’t change the result(physically)

And @scottj, not to drag on about it, but why couldn’t Boston College come out and announce what really happened? Everything they released to the applicants left it as vague as ever! Not too mention that several posters here reported admission officers at BC giving different info… One of which has to be false. I just conclude an unfortunate event that can not be changed. My ranting in pointless now so I just wish every applicant the best of luck!

scottj, you of course are correct. The fact that BC made a “mistake” and sent a number of deferral decisions out a week earlier than they are sending the rest of the decisions does not change the outcome and the rest of us will hear exactly when we originally expected to hear. I think what some might find “insensitive” is that not all of us were given this “favor” of an early reply. It has made an already stressful situation more stressful- and I think, once BC discovered their “mistake” they should have done a better job communicating with the applicants.
