i decided i might want to go to West Point, but i dont have the strongest academic and physical qualities (room for improvement though! i'll try my hardest)

anyway, I'm expecting on getting to Eagle Scout, is that a big winner for West Point?

here are my other stats:
correctable vision w/ glasses (yeah i know, but its a req there!)
3.6 gpa (2 honors courses, no APs)
SAT: 2100
ACT: 32
Extracurricular: Eagle Scout, +150 service hours

hmm, not enough? :(

any thoughts on my chances to West Point? thx very much

I don't think Eagle Scouts are rarities at West Point. It's obviously not going to hurt you but it's also not going to give you much of a boost with admissions, either. Your scores are pretty decent, too, so you might want to concentrate on doing well on the physical.

You could try posting this on the West Point forum, they might be able to give you more specific feedback there.

Your stats look good, depends on where you stack up against others in your district and state. Being an Eagle Scout IS good, but not an instant admission. There are LOTS of Eagle Scouts at West Point. You do need to realize that the USMA has the best of the best. So there will always be someone else who has done more, earned more merit badges, been a leader in more activities, has a higher GPA, etc. It's a collection of type A personalities. Keep striving to make yourself a better person all around. You WILL need to be in top physical shape. Keep in mind that some of your potential classmates have served in combat already while you're just coming out of high school. Trying ain't doing and you will need to master the physical challenge or it will eat you alive. Best of luck to you!

No question being an Eagle Scout counts. Your SAT's are really good so I am wondering why you claim you don't have "the strongest" academic qualities. What is your Math/CR breakdown on the SAT's?
What is the highest level of Math you are or have taken?

Lack of a varisty sport will hurt you. Over 90% of the entering class are varsity athletes. So what is the deal athletically? Are you an athlete? Are you in shape?

Cadence14, don't sell yourself short. Are there any other volunteer activities you might be leaving out? Or leadership opportunites? Getting to Eagle Scout status, have you acted in leadership roles that are unusual for someone your age? What about work experience - especially where you were responsible for managing time/activities/people? All of this is important to include. Your ACT scores, btw, are very strong. They will look closely at those scores. Good luck - and start physical training now... the CFA's are not a piece of cake!
