@STEM2017 good news to share, my son just got into Urbana Champaign engineering today. He is going there unless he gets in University of Michigan which is instate for us.
Thanks everyone for all of the info you posted @stem2017 @philipm @cbl1 . You are very helpful!!
I wonder if it is possible to apply for honors college LLC (whatever those two options areā¦cant remember atm) and Orion as well, or can you only pick one LLC to apply for. I think the Orion LLC would be great for S19.
After accepted students day, if Vtech ends up being #1 for S19, it is the one school we would pinch pennies to pay the extra for himā¦but weāre not telling him that yet :). It would be so great to get one of those later scholarships.
I may be wrong but I believe you can apply to multiple LLCs. Maybe 3 max?
@STEM2017 is correct. You can apply to 3 LLCs
Congratulations @AAA124555 !
@Gottwins If you read the language, it says theyāll here ābyā March 15th. That means they are letting some people know earlier. Yes, the ones I know that received letters this week were Early Action, not ED.
*ughā¦ I meant to say āhearā not here. Iāll blame it on my lack of coffee this morning.
Has anyone received an acceptance packet in the mail yet? Iām OOS from TX so I expected it to take at least a week. But has anyone else? Or are they just not mailing them?
@isue38011 Nothing yet here. Son is getting emails from the department of his major, but nothing in the mail.
We are in virginia and still have not received packet.
Weāre also in Virginia and have not received a packet yet. I was told by a friend whose child is already a student at VA Tech that they do send out acceptance letters/packets, so Iām looking forward to seeing it when it does come. Like STEM2017, my son has received one or two emails from his department that he was accepted to, so I do know he was accepted. I would just like to see a welcome letter.
@ElenaParent I canāt tell you which is better, but my older son graduated from William & Mary and I left a part of my heart there!! I LOVE that school. My youngest wasnāt interested in applying to W&M because his brother went to school there. I get it, but itās killing me because I really loved being a W&M mom. So many wonderful traditions. Great teachers. Great opportunities. Of course, Iām sure youāll get the same at Tech, but for my older son W&M was the perfect fit and I fell in love with it too!
Speaking of being a xxcollege parent, for new Hokie parents, checkout the VT Parents Facebook page. Lots of good info there.
Has anyone else heard back about the Honors College? I got an acceptance letter last night in the mail, but it doesnāt seem to come with any additional scholarships
@VAMom2019 Hopefully they wonāt stick to the date then for my daughter re: Honors college. Itās good to know that some are already getting notifications of acceptance. I will try and be patient. Regardless she has decided CT is most likely where she wants to be.
VT darn spell check. Lol!
I would like to second @STEM2017ās observations about the Honorās College for Engineering students and participation in the Galileo and Hypatia LLCs. The College of Engineering curriculum is very demanding. The courses are tough and the course timelines are very specific. The benefit of priority registration is not that critical to an engineering student. Many enroll at VT with enough credits that they are classified as either a Sophomore or a Junior so those students are not worried about getting into the general education courses. They completed them in high school with AP, IB, or DC credits. The COE offers its courses on a specific sequence. At Freshman Orientation, the COE advisors have already pre-enrolled the engineering students in the first-year engineering classes. After the first year, the COE plans for those students to progress to the next level of engineering classes. As long as a student maintains the sequence, the classes will be available.
My son was in the Galileo LLC several years ago. He became close friends with about a dozen of the Galileo and Hypatia students. All graduated in four years even though Aerospace was 138 credits at that time. The students remained close during their time at VT, studying together, working on projects, and generally looking out for each other. When it came time for their Senior Project (a two-semester course worth six credits), they were ready, had prior experience working together, and delivered an excellent product. A VT engineering student needs to be in a good study group. One of the best places to find/form a good study group is through Galileo and Hypatia. Those students ā even though itās almost four years since they graduated and they are working in many different locations ā remain good friends and make time for reunions.
@STEM2017 thanks for the info
I donāt know if this has been answered, but does VT send a formal packet in the mail? My son was accepted OOS
engineering and all we see is a ācongratulationsā on the portal and then a sign up for the Hokie weekend tour.
I wonder if they are waiting to send all of them out after regular is released tomorrow.
@Avesalius Yes, I received mine 2-3 weeks after ED.
