that is weird, you should be able to get your institutional scholarships, they didn't ask me for anything but my name either. I haven't sent in my acceptance form yet either.

completely aside from my dissapointment with my scholarship, I haven't been that impressed with the administration - everyone seems either very confused or kind of rude....I guess the school is going through some changes, so I guess it's kind of a "left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing" thing

Hey all! I am also waiting for my decision! I submitted my complete app in early April and I am going crazy waiting to hear.
-My stats are: age 23
-Former Joffrey Ballerina
-Currently enrolled at John Jay College in NYC with a 4.0 gpa
-3.4 GS GPA
-480 on SAT math, 560 on reading (taken 8 years ago)
some OK work experience (other than the ballet), store manager and such and currently an office manager.
I grew up in NJ but live in the city now, and I am an Italian-American chick

CONGRATS to you guys who got in!!
Does anyone know if you get a phone call if your rejected too? That would be awful........

oops- I meant 3.4 HS GPA

Yeah, the person I spoke with over the phone was pretty unhelpful. She said to call back later this week and that she might have the scholarship information then. I asked if they received my FAFSA info and she said that she didn't have anything for me and that I should call back later. Anyways, I sent the Acceptance Reply Form today because I'm probably going to end up going to Columbia.

I called the Admissions office too to see what was going on with my Transfer Credit Eval. The (nice) lady said that they are going through the process right now and that I should probably get it in the next couple of weeks.....

gscanadian and citymiddle - are you guys going with the scholarship info that you received? Also, citymiddle - does that $6000 include any federal aid/grants like the pell grant (if you're eligible)?

Lauren D. - I think you stand a good chance. Maybe the only thing that could possibly hold you back are your SAT scores, because I think I saw somewhere on the message boards that the minimum should be a 1200. But I think you are a strong candidate. Good luck!

econ, that does not include federal grants. my efc is zero so i should hopefully be getting the max allowed there. that's about $10,000 total per year. i'm not sure if that's doable for me or not, considering tuition is somthing like $45-$50,0000. i wonder why they haven't gotten to yours yet.

no, I'm not going this year :( I'm going to defer a year and see if I can magically come up with the money somehow. But I am also going to start looking at other places, if they'll give me more money - but it will break my heart to give up living in manhattan! and I also think Columbia has the best program...but I think they better get their act together financially and administratively - they seem very disorganized. It seems like the financial situation is getting into a rather heated debate on campus - so who knows it may improve by next year!

Thanks econstudent! I am kicking myself in the butt for being a rebellious teenager and not taking the SAT's seriously! I heard somewhere that they tend to be (slightly) forgiving of poor HS or SAT performance if you do well in your current college, but who knows!
If those of you who got in don't mind sharing SAT scores- what where they?

i received a phone call and was accepted as well.

question: i'll be able to transfer 50/60 transfer creds. i can't recall how many are needed for graduation though, does anyone know? also, will this take two years or more like three?

I think it was 128 credits to graduate.

i called again for my financial aid info. i got a lot of money considering its GS.

124 needed to graduate, including superdelegates.

oops. i was close. Thanks WindowShopping.

I got my transfer credit eval. So far I have 36/45 transferable credits. Not bad considering 6 of those weren't even UC transferable.

Out of curiosity, did any of those who were excepted to GS exceed the 2,000 word suggested limit for the personal essay? I am stuck around the 2,700 word mark. Should I just start cutting in an effort to get below 2,000 or send it as is?

.... My first draft was over 4,000 words... I talk way too much.

my essay pushed 17 pages, but there's a long story behind it and it was actually requested by the then dean of admissions for gs. i wouldn't do it without explicit permission, to be honest.

econ, how much did you get, if you don't mind? did you ask for more or did they just initially give you a lot?

Window- Thank you for the information.

I asked an a member of the admissions committee and she said that I would not be penalized for going over. I am around 2,600 so not too far. I am torn between leaving it around this length and editing further.

Thanks for the help.
