Early Decision 2018!

Online, followed by mail a few days later.

Yup, what Ravencroft said. A week after I received my WUSTL portal, I got the mail.

Thanks. So, jheono, are you saying you have received your decision notification already?

Do you guys know how common it is to be getting acceptances from WashU way before the answer deadline (dec 15th)? I have heard two or three stories about this but I wonder if it’s common at all (prob shouldn’t keep my fingers crossed as I do not think I am a “OMG WE MUST GET THIS KID NOW” kinda applicant".

Woops. My bad, read the question wrong! Please disregard my previous comment.

The only early acceptances(before Dec 15th) are given to those awarded some of the super selective scholarships at WashU like the Stamps scholarship. Only 5 students get the stamps scholarships every year.

I saw that last year (in the ED 2017 thread) that they found out on Dec. 11th.

Apparently at approximately 4:46 PM :)

@Jheono - Just to clarify, our midterm grades aren’t necessary to make a decision, right? My school is unable to send them either, and I was wondering if admissions would just go ahead and make a decision w/out Senior grades.

@siegi96 Looking on the admissions site, they said, “If you are applying early decision, you must submit your first marking period grades in order to complete your application.” Is there a special circumstance where you were unable to do this? If so, I would contact admissions about this.

Yeah. Just to clarify: From the phone call I had with two people working in the admissions office, it’s not imperative that you send in your first marking period grades.

Hey Ravnzcroft, I feel your pain on this one.

And to applicants: I’m a senior biochem major and music minor so if you have questions, let me know. (I saw that a lot of you are considering a biochem major…)

@musicalscientist I applied to engineering, but just out of curiosity: What classes did you take your freshman year? Did you find it difficult to adjust to the rigor?

If you’re doing anything science related, your freshman year usually looks like this:

Fall semester:
General Chemistry (3 units)
General Chemistry Lab (2 units)
Some form of Calculus (3 units)
Writing one (3 units) (it’s required, but may be taken spring semester)
One or two elective classes (3/6 units)

Spring semester:
General Chemistry II (3 units)
General Chemistry Lab II (2 units)
Some form of Calculus (3 units)
Intro Biology (3 units)
Two electives (6 units)

Some general things to note:
Most engineers and many science/pre-med people take the two intro physics courses their freshman year so that would take away one of those electives. Additionally, a lot of people take a language so that would deal with the other elective. If you don’t want to do those two things, you can start on a minor or just pick interesting classes.

To answer your question, I was in an environmental program called the Pathfinder program (look into it!) so two of my freshman year electives were environmental classes: “Earth and the Environment” and “Land Dynamics.”

Regarding rigor: It can be difficult to adjust to the increased rigor (especially if you come from a high school where you didn’t really need to do much to get good grades). If you are worried about this, just take a lighter load for your first semester. I took 15 units my first semester and things worked out well. Since then I’ve taken between 17 and 19 units per semester.

Are the ED decisions likely to come out on the 10th/11th as they did in the previous years?

@PrettyBoy

They should be out before Dec 15th but possibly a day or two later than last year simply due to Common App technical errors and such

Thanks!^

I attended their info session when their rep came to our school, they got my email adress/mailing address and have sent packets to me. However, I think they got my name wrong (one letter typo) from the info session, should I mail them about it so that when they review my ED app, they see that I did go to their info session?

Or will they be able to see that I did go to the info session just based on the fact that my email was already in their system?

Do we get an email when decisions are released or do we just have to keep checking the pathway like crazy?

The pathway is usually updated before the emails are sent, but the emails come pretty quickly afterward.

Let’s check this board everyday and update if the decisions are up, yes?

please???

Gah I can’t wait any longer. When do we think it’ll be? The 10th/11th?
