@lganser @codexsplanade What did this email say? I applied for ROME but never received any email from them. Yikes. I did, however, exchange a few messages with a rep and asked him when we should hear decisions. He told me they should notify by mid-Oct… Still, I imagine that everyone who received that email was on a list of some sort that I wasn’t on.

@cn7528 Here’s a copy of the email I received:

Dear Leilani,

Thank you for submitting your application to ROME. We are now reviewing complete applications, and will announce decisions by the end of the week.

For students selected for the ROME fly-in program, there are some next steps to consider. Please be ready to submit the following if selected:
To confirm attendance, students invited to participate in the ROME program are required to submit their Common Application to Reed by October 20 to confirm their seat on the trip. Note: there is no fee to apply for admission.
Participants complete a survey confirming appropriate departure airport and other travel needs such as ground transportation to the airport.
Participants and their parents will sign a permission slip and statement of good conduct.
Applying for admission: If you have not yet done so, this is a great time log in to CommonApp.org and complete the account creation steps. Use the College Search feature to locate Reed College and add it to your list of colleges. Follow the application completion steps displayed on your Dashboard (complete the Common Application form, assign your recommenders, and complete your Reed writing supplement). We recommend that you get a head start with the application; however, completion is required only for invited ROME students.

If you have questions, please contact us at 800/547.4750 or applyrome@reed.edu. Thank you for your interest in Reed, and for submitting your application for this fly-in opportunity. We’ll be in touch soon.

@cn7528 Maybe email them(?) or maybe just wait until the end of the week. I read that last year some people’s notifications came in late.

Thank you so much! I think that either I wasn’t emailed because I had discussed the matter previously via email with John, or maybe they’ve narrowed down their selection and I was cut before others were. Fingers crossed for now.

I appreciate you sharing the message with me. I hope we’re both accepted.

Is anyone else terrified about the fact that applications have to be in on the 20th? Perhaps I’m a chronic procrastinator (I am), but that seems so soon…and I don’t feel prepared at all!

By the way, good luck to all who applied to ROME. Hopefully, all of us get in and can hang out on campus when we’re temporary-Reedies.

@codexsplanade I’m with you. I definitely wasn’t comfortable hearing that, but the reality is that Reed courses surely have harsher deadlines with little advance notice, so I suppose all is fair. I’ve still got to polish my common app essay and start my Reed writing supplement (no easy task when you’re busy desperately checking for emails from Reed every ten seconds).

Good luck to you too! Who knows? Maybe we’ll be hanging out as permanent-Reedies this time next year.

I’ve actually had my application done- I’m just terrified to submit it! Reed is the only school I have felt truly comfortable writing about! If you need some inspiration, Reed magazine published tidbits of previous “Why Reed?” essays. I wrote mine about how I knew I wanted to go to Reed when I realized I was a Reedie. I really hope that we all meet next month on campus or next fall as classmates! Fingers crossed and good luck to us all!

@codexsplanade @cn7528 Decisions are out!

I’m assuming I didn’t get in, since I don’t have anything in my mailbox. Does anyone know if they mail you if you get rejected?

Also, who’s received acceptances? Congratulations to those who have!

If I didn’t get in, it’s a bit disappointing, but not unexpected. I’ll at least get more time to work on my essays. I’m hoping it won’t count against me when I do apply.

Okay, I’m crazy nervous. If I’m in and I get notified late, I’ll have even less time to finish my application. Can anyone who applied say if they’ve been notified, of either their acceptance or rejection…?

I would call them. There’s also a form you have to fill out and submit by Wednesday to confirm you’re going. Call the office on Monday because even if you got rejected, you at least deserve a notification.

@lganser I’m assuming you were accepted…? Congrats! It’s going to be such a fun experience, and it’s going to give you a much better shot at admission.
@codexsplanade I’ve yet to hear anything from them either, via mail or email. If we haven’t received anything, perhaps they do mail rejections so it takes a while longer. I’m really nervous. I would call or email to ask, but I hate to have to respond to solicited rejection. I’d rather wait.
@lganser If by some twist of fate I get a last-minute acceptance, is the form something I could complete in one day? Roughly how long would you estimate it takes to do a thorough job finishing it? Thanks.

I just emailed them asking about admission status.

@codexsplanade Good news! I just heard from Reed. They sent out the first wave of rejections and acceptances on Friday, and the rest will come tomorrow. Basically, if you haven’t heard from them yet, then they didn’t consider you a definite “yes,” but they also didn’t consider you a definite “no.” So, tomorrow – for sure – we will get a decision.

I genuinely hope you are selected. Regardless of their decision, keep in mind that you still have a shot at Reed and many other amazing educational opportunities to come.

@cn7528 Wow, thank you so much for clearing that up. I’ve been driving myself crazy worrying about this, hope the decisions come out soon. Even if I get rejected, I really need to know where I stand so I can rest easy!

I hope you are selected, as well. And I know…even if I get rejected I’m going to pursue Reed as hard as ever.

@codexsplanade I was told they’re going to have one last committee meeting to review us, and from there they’ll make their decision. I’d imagine this meeting would take place in the evening, after their usual work schedule. If that’s the case, I’d expect results no sooner than five or six o’clock their time. Regardless, I’ll be glued to my email all day.

I’m so nervous.

@cn7528 Yes, I received my acceptance Friday night. I am very excited. The form is a short one; just some questions about your passport or ID and your preferred airport. I hope you guys get in too, would love to meet you guys.

@cn7528 Me too. Beyond all logic, I find myself refreshing my inbox every 15 minutes just to check. I’m extremely anxious about this.

@lganser Thanks, same.

@codexsplanade I know! I keep trying to distract myself. I know everyone probably thinks this about themselves, but I’m pretty confident I was one of their less qualified applicants. My essays were nothing memorable and my grades and test scores were at least slightly below average.

@lganser That’s wonderful! You should be so proud of yourself. You’re going to have a kick ass time.

@cn7528 What are your stats? I feel the same. My ACT score is right in their zone (31) but my GPA is pitifully lacking (3.2). My current GPA is around a 4.0, but still…far from their strongest pool of applicants.
