@collegelover13 My understanding is Feb 15th - nothing rolling - but that is simply based on everything I have read. It seems to consistently use that date whenever I see anything about EDII
Thanks so much Southern5062! It is an amazing feeling and now I’m definitely buying a sweatshirt woo!
Does anyone know if there is a chat or GroupMe for admitted students in the class of 2022 or any way of connecting with admitted students?
@Chevy16 I have not found anything that connects us with other admitted students. Only thing I have found so far is the Parents & Families page on the WFUwebsite. There is ‘Admitted Students Weekend’ on two different weekends in April (link and some text copied below.) On Parents & Families page, you can also sign up for the Daily Deac newsletter for families of all students. Also, there is a Facebook Page for Parents & Families that occasionally posts photos and updates but it is very general and not anything geared toward incoming.
Also, you probably know this but Wake Forest does not let you choose your roommate for Freshman year. Some schools give you a website or Facebook group where you can chat with other incomings and find out some things you’re both interested in, etc - But Wake Forest will have us all fill out a profile and they match us that way.
Here is all I know on Admitted Students Weekend: http://parents.wfu.edu/my-student-is/incoming/
*When is Campus Day for Accepted Students and what is the schedule?
*Admissions will host Campus Days on April 13 and 20, 2018; this is an optional program. Accepted students and their parents or families can choose to attend the day that best suits their schedule. Details about the Campus Day schedule will be posted in late March.
*Here are a few dates for your calendars (additional information will be available next spring):
August 22 – Move-In Day for new students and Orientation programming for parents and families.
August 23 –Parent and family Orientation activities (programming ends around 8 pm).
@Chevy16 Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats? Thanks
At some point, likely immediately following RD decisions, they will create a FB and Twitter group for the Class of 2022. Depending where you live, you will have an opportunity to attend a local alum / family event for incoming students. It’s a great day to learn more about Wake for existing students and alum and meet some fellow students from your area. We had one prior to accepted students day and then one for enrolled students over the summer. Really nice events.
Congrats on your acceptances!
If I apply ED II will I be able to submit my first-semester senior year grades and are the Ed applicants more qualified? I have a 3.7396 UW and a 4.7396 W GPA. The interview went well and I the admission officer complimented my GPA. I am also an IB Diploma Candidate. Should I apply ED II or RD?
@ elizabeth_hanner ED and EDII candidates generally have a higher chance of admission. Last year, 55% of their freshman class was admitted through ED or EDII. (Last year was their first year for EDII, I believe.) You are promising to atttend if admitted, so the school is looking at those candidates very closely and rounding out their class profile because they know if they accept you, you’ll be part of their ‘well rounded Class os 2022’. With RD, so many of those students end up accepting other offers / schools, so they don’t really know with those candidates which ones will end up at WFU. If you are willing to fully commit to WFU if accepted on Feb 15th and if awaiting a financial aid offer is not a big issue, probably EDII would work in your favor. I would “think” that your first semester grades could be sent as soon as your school reopens, if you don’t have them already. Many schools don’t have them ready untul students return from break - so I think that is failry common in admissions. You can also put that in the comments section of your application (that they are forthcoming) then make sure your school sends the transcript immediately after they have posted. Your unweighted GPA is in their average range (not being critical) although the weighted is strong. WFU seems to value that you’ve taken the hardest courseload and it seems that you have. Are you submitting your SAT / ACT?
If you know it’s the one, go for it. Last yr the RD acceptance rate dropped to 25%. Much more difficult to get in that way.
Also, Wake places meaning on displayed interest. Hard to display more interest than letting them know they are No. 1!
I am not submitting ACT or SAT scores I know that WFU cares more about performance in the classroom but still I have some demographic factors that might help me somewhat. I am a Hispanic female and a first generation student and my parents are somewhat below the average income for a family of three.
Will the admissions office penalize me if my counselor signature is not in by Jan 1?
@elizabeth-hanner, I agree about SAT scores. I sent mine in but they were in line with my grades so I don’t think it helped or hurt. I still think they look much more closely at the transcript and level of coursework you’ve taken. I would just get the application filed by Jan 1 and put in the comments what will be forthcoming when your school reopens after the holidays - then follow up and make sure things get in shortly. You haven’t mentioned your extracurriculars but it sounds like you have a lot working in your favor already. Good luck!
I have pretty good extracerriculars. I ran cross country for all 4 years, I was and still in national honor society, juniorettes ,and beta club and I am the senior representative for beta club as well. I also did track for 2 years and played piano since I was seven.
After you get accepted, what are the next steps? I know we pay the enrollment fee and revoke applications from other schools but do they send an email with a student portal or a follow up email with more instructions? If anyone knows please let me know, thanks!
@Chevy16 Congrats on your acceptance and welcome to the Forest!! My son applied RD last year so I’m not sure if it is the same. He put in his deposit and then they sent him confirmation and his Wake email address. Most of the communication will come after May 1st when the whole class is accepted but I know that must seem like forever when you are so excited now!!
@chevy16 Yes, they will send an email for you to set up your student portal / electronic account. I also received a letter by mail confirming the deposit and stating that, due to the busy admissions season, admitted students won’t be hearing a lot of news during the spring, but that we will be contacted late Spring re: Freshman orientation, class registration, deadliens, etc… I assume that somewhere in all that, we will be allowed to register for the Admitted Students Day (choice of two weekends) in April.
Just submitted my application.
Thank you @Ibf and @Southern5062 for the responses!! I was also wondering if anyone who got accepted early decision was attending one of the the accepted student days in April. Are the accepted student days for students who are still deciding whether to attend or are they to meet people who have also committed to the university? I live in California so I’m wondering if it is worth it to make the trip since I’ve already committed. Thanks for any insight you might have!
My S used it as a way to make his decision last yr (attended two admitted school’s admitted days and chose Wake- and loves it!). There were others in attendance who already had decided to attend. Two objective points:
- It was a great day full of more information than you likely received at a info session / tour. Got to hear from the Provost, head of Career Services, etc. (Subjectively, gave one a great warm and fuzzy).
- Not sure it's worth the expense of traveling from CA unless that's not a big deal to your family and / or you want reassurance of your decision. Also a way to meet future classmates. I wouldn't worry too much about that. It's a very close knit student body and they do a great job of getting the freshmen together at orientation.
@chevy16 I received a letter today (for accepted students - yours should arrive shortly…) and it mentions things upcoming. One is the Accepted Students Day and you can choose April 13 or 20. I’ll try to go to one but I am only a few hours away. The letter says that the New Students website will go live in early May and that will allow you to choose from 5-6 Pre-Oriencation programs if you’re interested. I Googled “Wake Forest PreOrientation Programs” since I wanted to see what they were from last year - basically you can choose to go a few days earlier than regular move-in and get involved with a smaller group of students doing anything from hiking / backpacking, to a few days of community service, to going on a retreat for Christian ministry or Jewish students etc. Other options also. You do have to register for those and they seem to be around $300-350. That seems like a good way to meet some students in a small group setting for a few days before move-in day also. They suggested students arrive 3-4 days earlier with the ‘bare minimum’ needed for those few days, then the parents show up with the rest on move-in day. SInce you are flying, not sure how that would work. But they would know. Again, since I am driving distance, that is do-able for me. But even if you didn’t do anything but show up for Orientation / Move-in day - you would be fine! It really seems like a welcoming environment and everyone at Wake that I have met has seemed pretty outgoing (one of the reasons I really liked it when I first visited… all the students and faculty I met seemed very genuine.)
