There's so much hype surrounding NYU's ED system. Can someone explain why? Does it allot you a larger chance of getting accepted?

huh...i actually never heard of this hype...i don't think it'll particularly HELP ur chances of getting in...i mean a schools not gonna take u early just cuz u apply early like...if a school will take u regular...it'll take u early...and if u think a school will take u early, it'll take u regular as well...thats wut columbia admissions officer said...so ed is just like regular only u get to know sooner...lol that prolly made nooo sense...but yea...i mean i think i might tweek admission in ur favor for a lil bit but it won't help u much in the big picture...gl tho

It's significantly easier to get into a school early decision because it shows your dedication to the school... if ED was just about getting it sooner, there would just be Early Action rather than ED, but NYU does offer Early Action. If a school accepts you regular, it probably would have accepted you early... but it doesn't really work that well the other way around. If you're desperate to go to a specific school, and know that no matter what you want to go there (and are fine with the binding agreement), do ED, it's not just about getting it earlier.

Yeah, it helps your chances a lot to apply ED.

yep. the second post isn't true at all. the nyu website even states that they admit kids ED who they wouldn't admit RD.

Oooooo...well then....my b. hehe....sry

NYU doesn't offer Early Action; just Early Decision. The two are different.

1/4 - 1/3 of NYU's undergrads are supposedly ED, but I don't know how true this is. I myself applied ED and got in, but it seems like only 1 out of every 15 people I meet also applied ED. The good thing about ED, though, is that if NYU wants you, they'll take you. If you apply RD and NYU wants you, you still might not get in anyway because of space being a limiting factor. They can only admit as many RD applicants as there are spaces that aren't already taken up by admitted ED applicants.

but i know with ED, if you're borderline, and would normally be a maybe with RD--they'll flat out reject or defer you. they do this because they're afraid they're going to fill the spots too soon, and have to turn down a bunch on strong applicants.

IF MONEY IS A PROBLEM AT ALL... don't apply ED.
