I applied early decision I to my first choice school and will find out if I am accepted on December 15th. If I am not accepted, am I able to apply Early Decision II to my second choice (due December 28th)? I am very confused because my counselor said this was not possible but I have read some threads that would suggest otherwise. Please let me know!

yes, if you are denied or deferred by your ED school, you are free to apply EDII. You need to find some authoritative answer though, because your counselor needs to sign off on your ed app. Email the EDII school and ask them, then show it to your counselor. EDII is kind of new.

Absolutely. You are only bound to the ED1 school if they accept you. If not, you may apply elsewhere. The one challenge might be having your gc sign that ED form for the second school if he/she is not around between 12/15-12/28. It is my understanding that all those ED agreements cannot be signed until decision from ED1 are in. Does that makes sense?

EDII deadline of Dec 28th sounds VERY early…please call that particular school and confirm; most are January 15th (or rolling are Feb 1)…

Alternatively, can you have your GC send all your materials excluding the EDII agreement (send it in RD and then change it) so that you don’t have to worry about contacting her/him during Christmas break?

After your EDI decision comes back, if it is a reject or defer, you are quite definitely free to apply EDII elsewhere. Because the EDII deadline is during winter break (which you should definitely double check because that is highly unusual), I am certain the EDII school will give you extra time to obtain your GC signature on the EDII agreement. The rest of your app will need to be in by the EDII deadline.

I believe OP is talking about ED II at Pomona - and yes - the deadline is 12/28 - very odd date - but that is the correct date. If the OP gets bad news from the ED school on 12/15 - time to explain ED II to the GC (lol) and having the GC sign the ED II agreement and send to Pomona asap. I agree with other posters to submit everything now as RD - then all you will have to change is to add the ED II form if need be.

I really appreciate everyone taking the time to inform me about Early Decision II! At this point, I am pretty confident that I will apply Early Decision II if I am not accepted Early Decision I. I am meeting with my college counselor tomorrow, who originally said you could NOT apply ED I and II, and would love to provide him with information regarding ED II from an official source. Does anyone know where I could find that?
