Early Decision II

Are ED II applications binding and restrictive? And can I apply to both Emory University and Northeastern University under ED II?

ED II is binding, and as far as I know it is similar to ED I in that you can only apply to one private school. The student’s guidance counselor has a part to fill out and both parent and student have to sign paperwork that GC submits.

ED2 is binding and you may only apply to one college ED in an ED round. You may, of course, apply to an unlimited number of colleges Regular decision at the same time that you are applying to that one ED. You would withdraw all other applications at the time you learn that you are accepted to the ED school.

ED2 is identical to ED1… just with a later due date.

Correct. SO apply to Emory for ED 1, and if you dont’ get in apply to Northeastern ED2.

You can only apply to one school EDI and/or ED2. As noted above, only the timing is different. IMO ED should only be used if 1) you have an absolute top choice and 2) you have no need to compare financial offers.

If you do not get into your ED1 school on the ED notification date, whether you are rejected or just deferred to RD, there is no longer any obligation to it and you may apply to another school ED2.
If you get into the ED2 school then, you must attend it.
