Our son is a rising senior he has taken most APs at this school and thriving to go for an engineering school either Virginia Tech (Instate), UMD College Park( out of state) or UPenn(out of state) Engineering. His overall grades were mostly As and few Bs.
Question:
Is it smart to wait out and submit the application under general application in January so he can improve his grades.
OR
Submit the application as ED?
TIA!
UMD CP has a Nov.1 deadline for merit scholarships. Not sure about VA Tech but many of the state schools seem to use that deadline. For UPenn, if the rest of his application is very strong, applying binding ED, if that’s his number one choice, increases the odds of admission.
The UMDCP Nov 1 deadline is not ED, not binding, and as @momofsenior1 said, it is the deadline for merit scholarships and also the deadline for special programs such as Honors and Scholars
Also, for limited enrollment programs like engineering, advised to apply EA for Umd, especially for OOS. It’s non binding. Since you’re instate for VA tech, you have a great option already.
