Early Decision VS Regular

So, I pretty much fell in love with Brown after a visit a few days ago, and I’m thinking I might kick my studies into high gear this last year & hopefully I’ll make it in.

I’m thinking of taking the ACT w/ writing instead of the subject tests (let’s just say my Latin Literature was terrrrrrrrible…haha). Otherwise, my GPA is a 3.8 and I take all honors/ AP classes and of course am involved in tons of volunteer work and clubs. Specifics aside, would it be better for me as an “average” good student to apply regular or early decision? I’ve heard it from a few different perspectives; some say you will have a “better chance” of getting in early decision, because there will be a smaller pool of applicants, but other sources say that the applicants in this pool are typically more qualified, so if you aren’t top material you’ll get left in the dust.

Consider that I get mostly A’s in my honors and AP classes this year, get about at least a 29 or 30 on my ACT, and have an impressive list of reccomendations and extracurriculars, and write a unique essay, at which time do you think I should apply?

(I know that either way admission is definately not guaranteed, but which do you think I would have a better chance?)
