Early Decision

Hey guys! So I know that Drexel had recently started giving the early decision option but does anyone know how many early decision applicants Drexel had last year and what the early decision acceptance rate was? I tried looking for it but I can't find it:( it would be great if someone could help me!:)

When we went to the Open House this spring, I asked that question to an admissions officer - they weren’t giving out specific stats, but she did say the chances of getting in were definitely higher for ED candidates last year.

Okay thank you so much! I really want to go to Drexel and I think I’m most likely going to apply for early decision. But the only problem is that I’ve never got a chance to see the campus and I’ve heard stories saying that it’s not too safe. How did you like the campus when you visited?

I’m from New York City so I may have a different perspective, but it seemed safe to me. There is a good security force, and as long as you’re not wandering off campus by yourself late at night I think it’s fairly safe.

I applied and was accepted ED last year.
The campus is great, it’s a hell of a lot safer than Temple’s. The majority of the stories you hear are people who walk around alone late at night flaunting the fact that they have phones/valuables with them. So as long as you’re smart, you’ll be okay. The campus is actually in a really nice part of the city, and 30th st station is literally right next door, so you can literally go anywhere.

Thank you so much! And I also had a few other questions and it would be great if someone can answer these as well:
If anyone of you guys is in the co-op program, I want to know how it is? Is it really stressful and would you recommend it?

What are the most popular majors at Drexel? And how are the professors?

And my last question is for the students who got into Drexel last year. I really want to know what your high school stats were like? Such as test scores, gpa, classes, and extracurriculars, so I could find out if I’m on the right track as well.
Thank you guys:)

Well Tennisgirl, unfortunately, I cannot answer the first question, as I am only an incoming freshman myself, but I am pretty sure I can answer the other two.

As far as my experience goes, the professors were very helpful and responsive. I am a physics major who wants to also pursue an mba, and for the most part, I was supported every step of the way of figuring out the best program for me. Even when I was lost in the business building, one of the professors noticed that I was lost, came out, and told me where I should have went, which was, really great as far as I am concerned!
As for the major, I think the most popular are the Biology, Nursing and some type of Engineering, though I am not sure what type of Engineering would be the most popular. I am just saying, if you want a science or engineering background, go for Physics, it’s a very small department which really looks out for each other!

As for grades, allow me to firs, direct you to this site: [Drexel University - GPA and Test Scores Needed for Admission to Drexel University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania](Drexel University: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA) it will give you all the information you need about grades, about Drexel, and about any other college you are wondering about.
My stats are not that great, I have a 3.82 gpa, a 1310/1600 SAT, 110/120 TOEFL (I am Russian) some extra stuff (3 years of fencing, a year of Karate) and about 100 hours of volunteering. Good essays, good recommendations and all that.

Anyway, if you need any help, I would be happy to oblige, so feel free to ask
I don’t feel like re-reading this wall of text, so ignore any typos you see :/

Thank you Sergey! It really helped! And yes, I’m also looking into choosing physics as my major and it’s great to hear that they have a good program. How competitive would you say the science department is?

Anytime, I am happy to hear that you are considering physics!

The science department overall is relatively highly ranked. The Students are friendly and the Professors are welcoming, it’s a very interesting community to be honest!

I am curious, what are your HS statistics?

Drexel actually is not offering an early decision option this year. There are two early action deadlines, November 1st for EAI (you’ll get your decision mid-December) and December 1st for EAII (you’ll get your decision in mid-January). I don’t know if this influences your decision at all, but I just thought you should know :)

I applied to Drexel’s business program last year with a GPA of >4.0 (weighted) and 4.0 (unweighted). My SAT score were 1380/1600 and 2160/2400 (although because the writing section is still fairly new, Drexel doesn’t consider it as much). In high school I took pretty much all honors classes and 7 APs. As far as ECs go, I was heavily involved in theatre/choir, was in several honors societies, had a decent amount of community service, held a part-time job, and got a few academic awards. I ended up getting in with a pretty decent AJ Drexel scholarship, although I am considering switching to an engineering program or the business and engineering program.

Can you please provide a link about Drexel moving to two Early Action deadlines?

That would be a new program and I would be interested in the details.

Thanks.

Unfortunately I don’t have a link. I was told in an email from someone in the admissions office because of one of the organizations I am involved in on campus. He said it was official as of 7/19, and the website should be updated in the next few days to reflect the new deadlines.

Early Action is basically just a way for students to apply and receive their decision earlier without having to sell their soul to the school.

@Sergey
Hear are my stats:
3.48 gpa (I was actually a straight A student but I went through some personal problems junior year that brought me down, but I’m going to try to raise my grades again this year)

SAT: 2050
ACT:28

APs:
Chemistry
Statistics
US history
Literature and Composition
Biology
Art History
US Government

Extras:
Tennis- 1 year
PTSA(leadership program)- 2 years
ASB- 1 year
Speech and Debate- 3 years
President or VP of many clubs
200+ community service hours
I’m going to be joining JSA this year
Red Cross volunteer/ blood drive planner

Outside of school:
Indian dancing
Volunteering at hospitals/senior homes
I also work with other schools to organize culture shows throughout the year.

For my major, I have not decided exactly what I want to do because I have an interest in science as well as arts and writing.

I’m hoping on getting good letters of rec. because I have quite a few teachers who are very fond of me and understood what happened to me junior year to make my grades drop.
And I’m also going to be getting letters of rec from my leadership advisors.

I hope this is okay. I think I may be missing a few things but I could just PM you them.

Do you know why they got rid of ED so quickly, after only one year?
