people who get "likely" letters HAVE to be the "academic creme de la creme"? During EE don't they evaluate the student holistically? What if they're not top students, but they have something else special about them? Does that get looked at or they get pushed to the regular decision round.

Ok, elmers45, this is what Wellesley wrote specifically in the letter to which I was previously referring. "If you are among our top applicants, you will receive a letter indicating that is likely you will be admitted in the spring. Students in this highly selective group represent the very best applicants in our pool." So, from what I can tell, it is a holistic evaluation. "Best" can be in terms of extracurricular activities, grades, essays, etc. I shouldn't have been so specific in my last post.

Wellesley uses EE like any other college uses Early programs: to nail down those applicants that they want the most. EE doesn't nail down as many as ED does but it allows them to capture a higher percentage of applicants than they would for the same group applying RD.

You can't look at EE solely in terms of what it does for you; you need to understand what it does for Wellesley as well. And it works.

For six weeks until other decisions come in, the applicant knows only Wellesely "for sure." And there's all the contact after the letter goes out, including the phone calls and letters from students. It's very persuasive. There's still a "Wellesley" magnet on our refrigerator from that period, even though D ultimately decided to go to Smith.

My D was deferred from ED and went straight to RD. "Do not pass EE". Is it correct to assume that there is no option for EE once the ED process is complete? She is receiving acceptances from other colleges already but her heart is still with Wellesley. One thing she did obtain after the fact was her Sat IIs; 760 and 760, but even that may not help. Oh well.

What do you mean, "Do not pass EE?" I'm pretty sure applicants that apply under the Early Decision plan are automatically deferred to the Regular Decision pool. So...your daughter will hear back from Wellesley in April. Good luck to her!

Tired papa means that his daughter won't get an EE "likely letter;" the only time she'll be hearing is in April- as opposed to getting the additional letter EE appliants received in late February.

Oh man, I just had an interview with a Wellesley alumna. She was AMAZING and so kind. I really want to go there now! ;-) I'll have to wait for another two-three weeks though...rawwwr!

This week is the second week of February... Do you mean by this weekend??????? So worried......

my counselor isn't sending out my midyear report until 2/15...could this mean my EE status won't be known until later? or could i not be EE at all?

Don't worry...midyear reports postmarked by 2/15 will arrive at Wellesley in time for Early Evaluation.

so , i received a letter from wellesley today and it was not a notification letter (i received the notification letter long time ago) ...............

It tells that my application is under consideration and explain to me what Early Evaluation is (explain after I applied - lol) and stated that the result will come out in a few weeks by normal mail!!!!

Phew... i thought the evelop was "something"..... I nearly lost my breath and i hope this thread gives the same effect to you.... haha!

gee, pc31, that's nice and EVIL.

;)

Arrrgh, when are we going to find out? I want to know when I should be permanently glued to my mailbox...tehe.

from looking at old posts it seems like some early evaluation applicants found out as early as Feb 18th last year. Most people got their letter between the 18th and 25th....that's only a week away!!!!

Don't worry, Toffee, PC31's evilness has been quietly noted by a lurking member of the Wellesley Board of Admissions and is receiving an "Unlikely" letter as a result. ;)

The 18th-25th coincides with my memory.

haha, it's karma.

the 18th-25th?! i guess we'll all be glued to our mailboxes. unfortunately, my mail has a penchant for getting lost. wellesley doesn't notify online, does it?

aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhh h

im done.

H20, it's okay! Take a deep breath...everything will turn out for the best. If it doesn't, you can attack your mailman. haha

haah of course, that's the perfect backup plan for us all.

haha thx. but I wouldn't attack my mailwoman, although it'd be quite a good diversion from that "unlikely" letter.
