"NYU is my absolute number 1 choice" -- there you go!

but nyu early decision either accept or deny...there is not deferring

Though this may be true, you should consider that averages are relatively lower during ED as opposed to RD. Maybe the decision isn't as cut and dry as i thought ...

anyone else?

If NYU is your #1 choice and you don't need to compare f/a packages, then apply E.D. If your situation doesn't fit that, then apply R.D. Although applying E.D. gives a definite advantage at some schools, it isn't that much of an advantage academically at NYU. If you can get in E.D., you can almost certainly get in R.D.

"If you can get in E.D., you can almost certainly get in R.D."

I'd have to disagree with that statement. Even on CC, just look at the profiles of ED vs. RD from years past. If you can get in RD than you'll likely would have gotten ED, but the reverse isn't true. Applying ED to NYU clearly does confer some advantage, and certainly there are some EDers who wouldn't have been admitted if they went RD.

The difference in acceptance rates between R.D. and E.D. at NYU are insignificant. My point was that THAT should not be the deciding factor in determining when to apply. The applicant pool varies, obviously, from year to year. In most years in the past ten years, E.D. applicants had better academic stats, on the whole, than R.D. applicants did. So, logically, if you're a weaker candidate in that applicant pool, you're at a disadvantage, even though it's E.D. The bigger related factor in E.D. admissions is that they are able to accept virtually an unlimited number of applicants. It historically has ended up being approximately a third of the freshman class. I've heard an assistant Dean address this issue many times as he's a friend of my parents. Like I said, at some schools E.D. gives you a huge advantage but that's not the case at NYU, and it shouldn't be what makes your decision for you.

i would go for ED. i'm a freshman in GSP, and I had similar stats. The percentage of kids that get in ED isn't very different from RD, but you still have a much better chance because more kids apply RD than ED. Just make sure you're extremely enthusiastic about NYU in your supplemental essays. If you seem like you really want to go here, apply ED and have good grades/ecs/scores, you should be fine! goooood luck

NYU says flat out that applying ED gives you an advantage because of the smaller pool, and goes on to say that there are people that have gotten in ED that almost certainly would have been rejected RD. So there you go.
