Is anyone attending early registration? We will be there in March.

We signed up for April.

We will be there in April

We are going in March

We are coming in from NY for the March weekend.
Does anyone know if we need to do any course research?
I was under the impression that most freshmen have a core set of classes they need to take. Do they really have that many choices to make?

When you arrive, you will be given an info packet about the weekend.
You should receive a registration booklet with all that info that talks about every course offered at HPU.
They will also give you a list of all classes students need to take (more specific if you have a major picked!)

You will need to sit down the day before you meet with your advisor to get an idea of what you want to take your first semester. I did this with my parents in our hotel room. Make sure you arrive to your advisor meeting with a good idea of the classes you want to take. Include some back up plans just in case things get full or overlap!

All in all, don’t worry too much about researching classes before you arrive because as you know, HPU will help you will every step along the way. The weekend is organized to help you leave with all your registration questions answered!

Thanx…very helpful. I feel better already.
Any place to get information from last year’s freshmen regarding what classes were most useful?

Do you have a declared major? My D did not declare a major but was(is) leaning toward Biology. Therefore, her first semester, she took the first required Biology class, her freshman seminar, Calculus, President’s seminar and Western Civilization. Her advisor gave her great flexibility.

She really loves the university. Some of her classes have been challenging but she has great relationships with her professors who have been accessible both in and out of the classroom.

My son took part in Early Registration last year (he’s a Freshman this year). There is a general information session that you and your child will attend on Fri (I assume it will be the same format this year). There he/she will receive basic information about what to take during Freshman year. They also give you a schedule of what classes are offered when and how many seats are available. I remember my son was very anxious/disappointed when he had “designed” a desirable schedule that night only to realize that there were only a few seats left in a couple of them and he assumed he’d be closed out of all his chosen classes by the time it was his turn to register the following day. That’s when we developed a “Plan B”. That helped him sleep but as it turned out he was able to get the classes he wanted. His advisor was very helpful in looking over what he/we had selected and reassuring him it was a good balance between a couple of more labor-intensive classes and some “easier” ones. It must have worked because he did fine last semester and still managed to have fun.
Good luck. All in all it was a good weekend!

No major yet. I think he is hoping to take a sampling of classes and figure it out from there. I guess we’ll check out the registration booklet and take some advice from the advisor. Thanx for the info. Time to think about plans A & B.

Is there a dress code for early registration at High Point? Going tomorrow and was checking to see if anyone knows. Plus, there are passport photos going to be taken that day. Shirt/tie? or polo? Not sure. Thanks in advance

There is no dress code for early registration. I’m a guy and I remember mostly seeing polos. For girls you don’t need to get dressed up too much either. Don’t show up in sweatpants though. You’re meeting your advisor and future classmates or the first time so look nice!

As for passport photos. No need to dress up at all. Whatever you wear that day will do. No tie necessary. Its a very informal picture.

camdisco24…first Thank You for all of the helpful info that you have provided everyone on this thread! Do you think my class choices will be limited if I attend the July early registration?

Some of the popular classes might be full, but your advisor will help you get all the classes you need. Many times, a teacher can sign you into a class even if it is listed as full (unless its a computer/lab class). Just come prepared with a couple of back up plans and a solid list of the class you want to take. Most of the general education classes will still have plenty of room, its usually the more specific major courses that fill up quick.

You’ll be just fine!
