Does anyone think its strange to make admitted freshman students visit campus yet again to register in March and April? It is not cheap or convenient to fly into NC from other parts of the country. Don't most schools offer freshman registration during orientation? We were just there in February and now have to go down in April to register.

Although the University does invite students to register early, there is absolutely no obligation to do so. It only puts incoming freshman at an advantage prior to move-in day, and it is way easier to get into any and every class in which your student wishes to take. However, there first few days on campus students will be given the chance to make appointments with their advisors to schedule classes. One way or another, your student will get a class schedule, Early Registration is just another opportunity for your child to get ahead and alleviate any kind of stress that usually comes with moving into your first year of college.

We will be down in April as well. I think you can register at orientation in August as well. We are frolm Northeast and are on a school break during April registration, so we are going to take the trip. It is expensive, though. Some people went down in March even before financial aid packaging went out. We just received ours late last week and they are still rolling them out.

Right, it is not required to go to early registration. It’s just another opportunity to visit campus, get acquainted, meet professors, ect. Also, it ensures you get all the classes you want.

Hi, although I know it’s costly, if you can swing it, it’s worth it. We were there this past weekend and with all the info they throw at you I can’t imagine doing it move in weekend. My .02

I would imagine there is a lot to go over. Are the schedules pretty much set after you leave. I want to try and book airline as soon as possible, but wanted to get the schedules first. Do they have parent seminars for Q & A during the weekend.

Yes, the schedule’s will not change unless the student finds it necessary to make any changes. Also, the weekend has tons of different information/Q&A sessions for both parents and students. There is certainly a ton to benefit from throughout the entire weekend.
