As twobugs mentioned, we also got the FA offer in the mail several days after seeing the acceptance letter in the portal. The hard copy has a bit more specific FA info, which is helpful to understand.
Hey sorry to ask again, but has anyone gotten a STRIDE yet?
Some people got Stride letters yesterday and the day before. There’s another thread on the Smith board about the Stride letters. Hope that helps! The letters were dated last Friday.
I received a STRIDE letter on Monday
Was just checking out the Smith website for information on the STRIDE scholarship. Seems it’s awarded to approximately 50 students per year. Is that 50 incoming students, or 50 total throughout the entire Smith population? Anyone know?
Also, what does it take to be competitive for the STRIDE scholarship? DD is ED2 admitted and hasn’t heard anything, so I guess she’s not a selectee.
Smith’s wording is very misleading. There are ~250 first-year applicants awarded a STRIDE. The yield is 20-25%, hence, ~50 women who are awarded a STRIDE matriculate.
Very very few ED admits are awarded a STRIDE. They don’t need to be coerced to attend Smith.
Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t realize ED took you out of the running for STRIDE. Regardless of the scholarship money, I’m sure there are ways for ED students to connect with faculty on research projects. Wouldn’t seem right to exclude those students.
ED doesn’t take you out of the running for STRIDE. CrewDad has another post where he clarified this by calling Smith. My daughter was accepted during ED1 this year and got the STRIDE scholarship. This changed in just the last couple of years.
The BannerWeb portal has financial aid information on it, just start at the main page and follow the tabs. I don’t know if STRIDE info would be there, if it is I didn’t get it, but presidential and need-based info shows. The package I got was extremely generous, better than any other school I’ve received info from.
Does anyone have more information on this point, about research opportunities for Smith students who don’t get the STRIDE? My daughter was an early write, was hoping for STRIDE but did not get it. Meanwhile, two other LACs offered hefty merit awards with research options. Trying to evaluate.
Lots of (most) students don’t get STRIDE and have research opportunities. STRIDE is a nice bonus but it isn’t going to make or break your college experience or future career opportunities along the way. There are many other career kick starters as well- https://www.smith.edu/cdo/
