Early Writes

Thank you guys you all have been so helpful about sharing information. Sorry to ask another question, but has anyone from like a western or midwestern state gotten theirs yet?

I got one today too! @Smythe I’m not western/midwestern though; I’m about 300 miles from Northampton. There’s a thread for early writes from 2012 I think, and according to that, people were still getting them almost a week after the first people received them.

Got my early write today- the letter is dated and postmarked Feb. 18th. (I’m from the South.)

Pretty pleased and surprised- I didn’t even know Smith gave out likelies. Congrats to all of the other early writes, and good luck to everyone else!

I got my letter today (Puerto Rico here) so excited! It’s my first acceptance, but I can’t say it was unexpected, considering I got in to their fly-in program. Congrats to everyone else!

Now we wait for financial aid…

daughter got the early write today. in portland. very nice touch of them to send a hadwritten note. she was surprised to see them mention her internship as well! that made her feel very warm and fuzzy lol.

Ha- they actually messed up on my letter, mentioned something that didn’t appear anywhere in my application. Not as much of a “warm and fuzzy” feeling here.

I just got my early write! So excited to be admitted to Smith’s class of 2020! And I too thought the handwritten note was very sweet and a nice touch.

@LikeThis Is it possible what they mentioned was something a teacher wrote in their rec or that a parent wrote in the optional parent rec? If not that is a bummer

@Smythe: No, my teachers and counselor read me their recommendations so I know what they wrote. The note referenced something that would’ve been really out of place on a rec, haha. Oh well.

@LikeThis Well that’s weird. I wonder where they got the information from.

@Smythe I’m thinking maybe the dean got a bit mixed up and wrote down something meant for another girl.

I just got my early write today! The note was so sweet.

Question - does an early acceptance usually precede some kind of merit scholarship?

@divu123 From reading the threads from previous years, it seems that usually most early writes will get a STRIDE or Zollman, but not always.

Did any other early write people just get sent a smith t shirt? Wondering (hoping) it might mean something for stride/zollman. Anyway, nice of them!

Yes I also got one today!

My daughter received her T shirt last week (10th). Early Write - Parent note - T Shirt, came in rapid succesion and we are hoping that a Stride will materialize this week. If it does, Smith moves to the top of her list!

Congrats early writes! Not to bust any bubbles but I believe everyone who is accepted gets a shirt. I got one as well and I was ED with no merit aid. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you guys that you get the aid you need!

Are early writes still being sent out or has everyone who’s going to get on already gotten one?

Colllegebnd, Smith doesn’t award any merit awards to ED admits. Merit awards are used to entice the RD accepted students to enroll at Smith versus other colleges that they were accepted.

My D got hers February 22nd, and I think the majority got theirs around that time. It was then followed up by a ‘Parent Letter’ which I received last week. I’m afraid that at this point in time no more Early Writes will be forthcoming. It is my understanding that the Zollman and Stride Scholars will be chosen from this pool.

What is the Parent Letter? I received an early write but that’s about it. Nothing followed it as of yet…
