East carolina med ,is it good?

Is a pathology degree from east carolina a good of quality degree? I want to become an M.D. pathologist as a career, and i'm very conscerned about this because my options are a tad...limited. so is this a good school? a great one? or a dont bother?

You don't major in anything while in medical school. You go to medical school, get exposed to a number of different specialties, graduate with you MD, and then go to a residency in the specialty of your choice. That may end up being at the same school, or you can go to another hospital or medical center.

Don't worry about what med school you go to, the MD is far more important. Focus first on actually doing well in college, then getting into medical school.

Really? then why do they have degree's specific in east carolina med? also whats a residency? thanks for the help.

What?

Okay.

To become a doctor:

1.) Graduate from high school.
2.) Graduate from college. Major in whatever you like. Avoid majors that are explicitly linked to a career ("vocational" majors).
3.) Graduate from medical school. You will receive an MD. It does NOT have a specialization associated with it.
4.) Train in what amounts to a hands-on-apprenticeship for several years in a "residency". This is where you will start to specialize, at least a little bit.

How old are you? Why are your options limited?

i'm 16. my family isnt in the slightest well off, so alot of expensive med schools are out of the question, especially when my sister goes to college.

Too early to pick specific med schools. No sense aiming for any given school. Besides, if your family is really that poor, you might qualify for good aid from a rich school.

Focus first on college. If you really have issues with finances, there is financial aid available.

When you finally get to medical school, very few people have their family help with the cost (of course, my ex-girlfriend was one of the lucky ones - so I do know it happens, but her dad is a very successful dentist). You will take out massive amounts of loans and subsequently be in debt up to your eyeballs. This is normal, and expected, and you'll have many people tell you that this is "good debt" because lendors will realize that you are a doctor and still give you money.

Also...what do you mean "degrees specific" at ECU? Can you post a link to the website where you saw this so that I can tell you what it is you are actually looking at?

Based on this:
Education - PhD Programs

it seems the OP is talking about the PhD program in pathology and laboratory medicine.

For the OP - if you are from out of state - your chances of gaining admission to ECU medical school are very slim - as they have not accepted any out of state admits for over 10 years.

If you are looking at the PhD program - then that is different.
