hi. i live in pennsylvania and i am a sophmore in HS. i really want to go to a school in florida. my GPA isnt good so i was just wondering about some easy schools to get into down there. thanks a lot.

Most of the publics, except for UF are fairly easy to get into. private schools like Miami and Rollins can also be quite selective. however, if your aim is simply getting to FL there are lots of places for you to attend despite a GPA that’s less than stellar.

Schools like Florida Atlantic (FAU), Florida International (FIU), and FL Gulf Coast, Lynn University, FL Southern, St. Leo, Palm Beach Atlantic, Univ of North FL, Univ of West FL are probably among the easiest to get into depending on your tastes.

You also may want to look into going to a community college, then transferring to a larger university and you are almost definitely going to get in (to a larger university) if you take that route. There’s a CC near UF, PSC for UWF, Valencia for UCF, TCC for FSU, etc.

Easy schools… USF,FIU,FAU,UCF FSU care program, FAMU,UNF. But, really i would say the easiest would have to be FIU,FAU & FAMU

it just depends how bad your gpa actually is. places like fsu, ucf, and usf will not be easy to get into if you really do have a bad gpa. if you are just being hard on yourself, and it really isn’t that bad, you could probably get into the vast majority of schools. uf is a good school, but it isn’t as elite as those who go there like to make it out to be.

FTIC Admissions Rate as of Fall 2011

FAU… 35%
FIU…39%

“easy to get into” would be more like 60%+

Admission rates don’t mean anything by themselves. It really depends on the quality of the applicant pool. Schools like UF and FSU have “higher” admission rates than FAU and FIU, but which schools do you think are more selective?

The difference is that UF and FSU are not located in big metro areas so most people don’t bother to apply unless they have good grades/test scores (or they play football) so a higher percentage are admitted. Basically, they have a “higher-quality” applicant pool.

FAU and FIU have to reject many applicants because a large number of wildly unqualified people in the South Florida area apply because they are the nearest, half-way decent schools and many people probably assume (incorrectly) that they will just take anyone.

A guy who lives in the Miami metro with a 2.7 weighted GPA and a 1000/1600 SAT isn’t going to bother applying to UF or FSU (unless he plays football) but I bet he applies to FIU, who will most likely reject him, thus lowering their “admission rate.”

I wish USNews would include some of this information when they mention admission rates in their rankings, because a lot of people seem to take them at face value.

I agree that you should consider the CC route. In Florida, starting at CC is an easy back door into any state university you want. Nearly all the state universities have sweetheart relationships with nearby CCs to accept just about any of their students. If you graduate from a CC you are guaranteed admission into a state university, although there are no guarantees about which one.
