ECE transfer?

Hi my friend signed up for the priority waitlist for CIT, which excludes electrical engineering and computer science. The website says the chances of switching into these two majors is based on the criteria laid out here

First-Year FAQ

basically it says that you need to have good first semester final grades and good second semester mid term grades and they will consider you. However they go on to say they don't know how much space will be availible. It doesnt seem like a very definitive guarantee that whatever work you do will be honored and that you will get into ECE.

Im just wondering what are the realistic chances that if you do well those first two semesters that you will get in?

first of all, it’s not EECS, it’s ECE.

back in like 2003 ish i heard it was really hard to get into these programs, as the demand for it was higher. Now it’s not as bad, because if there’s an overflow of kids they just add another section of class.

But you have a better chance of taking intro ece in the spring (fall usually fills up fast with kids who think ece is the only thing they should do)

As for doing well, just take intro to ECE and get an A. (sounds easy, but they bumped it up a notch last year).

I transferred from MCS spring of freshman year into ECE. I took intro to ECE my spring semester and had an A as my midterm grade.

I know the midterm grades count 1/2 of first semester grades in getting into ECE, but if you get an A as a midterm grade (and didn’t completely fail first semester), you can basically be set (I know it’s easier said than done)?

i don’t know when “awvvu” took 18100/intro ece, but they made it so that it’s harder. You actually cover all of ECE stuff, instead of dumbed down version of 18220 (fund. of ee)

but don’t worry too much about it, I’ve never seen kids say they really wanted to transfer and never got it. People usually get fed up with ECE and leave on their own.

cheers.
