is anyone else going??

Yeah, I live in Charlottesville so I thought I might as well. Nice variety of classes avaliable.

cool! i'll see you there then i guess. have you picked any classes to go to yet?

I'm hoping to make it to some of their film classes (possibly my focus...i.e. UVa is not my top choice). Maybe some philosophy, literature, and/or psychology.

My daughter will be there; can't decide what classes to visit, though. Is there a set time in the schedule for students to get lunch? I don't see anything listed, and we have to leave campus right at 3 PM. Can anyone who knows the campus suggest a lunch place (dining hall, snack bar, off campus restaurant?) Sorry - mom speaking, this is one of the things I obsess about .....

The food on the Corner is "good" but I would suggest walking the 15 minutes or so from campus East down Main Street to the Downtown Mall. Main street has some great restaurants but if you make it Downtown you will be rewarded. It ranges from VERY upscale (Metro, OXO, The C&O), to moderate but still amazing (Bizou, EsCafe, Mono Loco, Bang [looks like a frat house but actually is a very trendy Tapas place]), to the quick but delicious (Marco and Luca's Noodle Shop (great dumplings), Christian's Pizza).

The Hardware Store is one of those staple Chville restaurants but it's not NEARLY as good as, say, Bizou.

Not sure where you're from but Charlottesvillians are notoriously friendly so feel free to ask for directions or suggestions. It's hard to find boring food in Charlottesville, it's famous for its restaurants. I've heard that we have the most restaurants per capita of any US city (including NYC). I can't corroborate this (and doubt it) but I do know we were rated the #1 City in the US and if I go somewhere other than UVa I'm going it miss it here.

See you at Echols Day. My name is Joe (6'1" Brown hair), feel free to ask me anything about Charlottesville. Here's a pic if you feel like trying to recognize me:

Cities Ranked and Rated: More than 400 Metropolitan Areas Evaluated in the U.S. and Canada, 1st Edition
Search inside at Amazon to read about Charlottesville....and its #1 ranking....(we like to talk about it) :)

If you want decent Italian food, good wine, in an eclectic setting check out Vivace. 2 minutes from grounds. If weather permits be sure to get a table on the patio. I used to wait tables there. 434-979-0994 for reservations.

Wow - thanks, Joe and Stumper! C'ville really is friendly! I've heard about the wonderful restaurants and would be happy if my d chose UVA so we could have 4 years to explore them. She's loved the school ever since we visited in 2003 and was very excited to get in, because our hs (upstate NY) has a poor acceptance record there. In fact, her GC said it was the only school on her list she couldn't predict. Now it's down to UVA and one other school, which is in a city that also has great restaurants (so her dad and I can't lose).

have any students admitted ED heard anything yet about Echols?
I was told it would come with more info after April 1st but it seems like alot of people know already, either I am not selected or I just have to wait I guess

I was wondering the same question nagah,

A friend at my school who was admitted ED, got his letter informing him he is an Echols scholar.( 10 days ago)

So i have pretty much given up hope, it was always a reach for me, lol

barski, what's your top choice?

waiting for ivies is torrrrturreeee

Don't I know it...I was deferred ED by Princeton but my top choice may be Brown...or Princeton...I'm just hoping to get an acceptance letter or two on April 1. I got into Northwestern (I feel like a jerk, I applied on a whim while people who dream of attending got rejected and waitlisted) and Echols (duh) so the weight has lifted slightly off my back. At least I know I won't be living in a cardboard box next year! Anyone else spending Spring break visiting colleges? (I've got an overnight at Brown next thursday...hopefully)

whoa, same here! (deferred ED by p-ton)
getting echol's was a big relief/surprise, i got into unc (well, likely) and w&m (and i can go to rutgers for free cause i'm from nj) so yea no cardboard box here either, wooo!
today is the last day of my spring break but i'm going down to uva on saturday (right after i get my 4 skinny envelopes) to visit the brother and echol's day. i doubt that i'll need to go anywhere else college-hunting
