From your experiences, have any of you noted any differences between being offered Echols if you applied ED rather than RD? Just wondering if Echols is used as a hook for those who have applied RD. Thanks.

rascal, I was hoping to get Echols. I was accepted ED,4.8w GPA 1540 SAT, Sat 2's 790,740,700...Jefferson Scholar nominee, 11 semesters of Varsity, JV sports, heavy community service, out of state
I did not get Echols....the good thing is that you can apply in the spring of your freshman year for Echols. If I work hard I have a chance of getting this. I am ok with it because what I really wanted was to attend UVA. In the long run, it would be nice, but it is out of my control

Thanks for your reply nagah. It seems very easy for UVA to take the EDers for granted, but hopefully that's not the case. I'd love to see a breakdown of the stats between the ED and RD applicants and their Echols offers. I'm glad you'll get the opportunity to apply to Echols in the spring. You certainly have great stats, and I'm sure you'll do great next fall!

There might be a slight correlation with RD and Echols (just b/c more of the 'highly competitive' students tend to apply RD so they can then choose between their top schools), but if you do apply ED you do have a good chance for Echols too. My two best friends both applied ED last year and both got Echols. If you certain you want UVa, don't not apply ED just because of worries about Echols. Applying ED has its own benefits if you really really want to come to UVa -- you know sooner and are able to spend more of senior year just enjoying it and not stressing over apps. And ED kids are definitely looked on for Echols so its not that you will be overlooked by any means.

And truthfully, while Echols status is nice, not being Echols isn't going to drastically change your experience at The University, especially since over than 90% of The University isn't Echols.

And I'll see if I can find some stats about ED/RD and Echols... If I do, i'll post them later
