So...I requested a regular dorm on my housing application, but now I'm stuck in Ecology House. Anyone know the answers to these questions about it?

Is it really as out of the way as it looks on the map? Will it be hard to make friends with the rest of the freshman class since it's so isolated? Are the people that live there really as weird as I've heard? And is there any way I can switch?

Well, it's certainly not close to campus, but the bus system at Cornell is decent and I believe incoming first-years get a free pass.

That depends on you. First semester freshmen tend to socialize with everyone in their immediate vicinity since most people feel somewhat out of place, maybe a little insecure, but everyone's in the same boat. Eventually everyone by second semester forms into their own little circles.

Since the placement process [I assume] is somewhat random, I'm sure you won't be surrounded by "weirdos" but rather people who are in similar position to you since Ecology House isn't exactly the most popular place to live. It's really only the more specific housing areas where people have to apply such as Just About Music or Risley when people tend to have particular characteristics.

Haven't been through anything like this myself, maybe you should drop cornell housing an email

my son lived in Eco last year.......being a Republican....kept a low profile. he is glad to be moving to WEST in the Fall as Eco is not close to Dining, campus or civilization.

Since they put you in there, it probably means theres nothing else available. So your only option would probably be to find someone willing to switch and then report it to housing.

Housing won't let you switch before you move in. Unless you can have your doctor say you're allergic to dogs/cats/rabbits... under which case they would have to move you out of eco because that dorm allows pets.
